“Great Happy Hour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2012

The happy hour is what has us coming back multiple times. Much of their menu is reduced in price and the sushi is very fresh. The service as previous reviews cite is pretty weak but the food itself and the happy hour deal is the attraction.

“Horrible disrespectful managers, not staff, managers!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2012

The managers here demonstrated the worst customer service I've ever seen in my life! Please do not patronize this restaurant because they care nothing about making customers happy and honoring their promotions. There was hardly anyone in there on this Saturday night (01/21/12) at 9:00 p.m. and the customer service is most likely the reason. A friend of mine and I both bought a coupon for Zake from a site that is similiar to livingsocial. Before we ordered we asked the hotstess and waitress if we both could use our coupon because it did not say one per table on the coupon, it only said one per couple. There was four of us at the table and none of us was a couple. The hostess and waitress told us yes but when it was time to pay they both were gone. The new waiter did not believe or care that they had told us the wrong information before we even ordered. We asked for the manager and he told us, oh no you don't want me to go get him! As if we should be scared of the manager of this restaurant. Well once he came he basically told us we were lieing about what the previous waitress told us and he would not honor it. As a manager he should have honored both coupons because it was his employee's mistake and just took the loss. Instead he argued with us and even told one of us to shut up. They finally gave up after calling the waitress and she admitted what she told us but instead of apologizing they told us to leave and we don't want your kind here anyway, the kind that wants everything for free. We didnt want anything free, we only wanted our coupon, that we purchased online for $12 by the way, to be honored.
I wouldn't recommend my dog to go to that restaurant because that is basically what we were treated like and you should never have to be treated that way in what is supposed to be a nice establishment. I wish I would've got the managers' names but you can't miss the little short homosexual one. He has an outright nasty attitude and he can tell you who his sidekick is. This company does not deserve or appreciate your business so I suggest you take it elsewhere. Thanks!

“Server! Where's Our Server?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2011 via mobile

Great food, but the service is deplorable. We had to wander the restaurant looking for our server, not once, but twice - and the place was nearly empty - we were one of about four tables occupied.

If the service is lousy, it doesn't matter how great the food is.

Speaking of their food, they have a great menu with lots of variety and creativity.

“Top notch, every time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2011

I am a local of Houston but this place deserves all visiting traffic of Houston to experience Zake. The staff are attentive and super friendly (it is the Southern charm). The location is great, quiet strip off the street. The interior is superb, clean lines but not overly Asian-decor. The fish has always been the big draw for me. Incredibly fresh, perfect texture and nicely prepared. Tuna, salmon and hamachi are so good. The rolls are varied and made perfectly. Never have one fall apart in the soy sauce. Our out of town guests are happy, our foreign guests have been over the moon. Happy hour prices just make it that more appetizing and so worth it. Other sushi restaurants have been tried and failed. I will always return to ZAKE.

“freshest sushi, atmosphere & happy hour weekends”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2010

Excellent sushi chef. Not the slash and dab assembly you find at so many other restaurants. Great atmoshere with comfy booths, quality lighting, restful decor and a long sushi bar. The fish is very fresh and best yet their sushi happy hour is seven days a week. The happy hour menu is not just filled with the cheap chopped "spicy" and cream creese filled rolls like most competitors who offer a reduced price happy hour. The service like most Asian style restaurants is very attentive.
When you pay the bill and leave one feels they had a relaxing dining experience with a good value. I will become a repeat customer.
