Just one word for this place ..sexy. The design is over the top high style. Every few inches there is some sort of visual entertainment. There are enough deluxe construction materials, fabrics and patterns to induce vertigo, but the cumulative effect is stimulating, and endearing; unlike, say for example, the Delano in South Beach which can seem aloof and condescending. We stayed for a night in the SoHo Loft- one sexy hotel suite. So huge you could throw an office party in there. All of the furnishings, flooring, architectural hardware, black honed marble, black belting leather etc. are not simply attractive they are of the highest quality. At night the “apartment” comes into its own with dark ceilings and halogen pin spots complementing the lights of the sweeping, expansive eleventh floor cityscape. (though the view is better in the rooms facing south to Hermann Park) Put in a cd or dvd below the 60” plasma or use the Bose ipod docks, fill up that huge tub for two and ...well, you get the idea.
The mature oak trees and nearby museums makes it feel like the grand hotels along Central Park in New York. Across the street is the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and several blocks away are two stunning and sensational treasures -the Menil Collection Museum designed by Rienzo Piano and the adjacent Rothko Chapel. If you get museum fatigue you can in the River Oaks and Galleria areas within ten minutes by simply calling for the driver to bring you in the Zaza’s Escalade. Nice. (we had virtually zero wait.)
The staff was great. Flawless- from Lolita in reservations to Ralph at the time of check out. I had a luggage problem and I must have received six calls updating me until it was solved. It seems like they have all just graduated from hotel management and their careers are on the line with youthful enthusiasm to get things just right. The mood of service is professional yet collegial – not subservient. The Monarch restaurant was not terribly crowded, good drinks and we saw a well known NBA star. The menu in the Monarch restaurant was imaginative with the usual eclecticism you see now days and perfectly presented. We had a very enjoyable meal, and an expert waitress, but for me the taste wasn’t quite there –I don’t know, likely too many of those superb martinis.
The Hotel Zaza in Houston…it’s great foreplay.

We stayed here for two nights for our anniversary. There is a selection of concept suites that are decorated in a decor theme or the upscale "magnificent seven" suites on the top floor. We stayed in one of the "Splendito suites" an 1100 sq. ft. suite on the 9th floor with a killer view over Herman park with Rice university and the medical center in the distance. The room had a separate master bedroom with a large living room and 1 1/2 baths. The bathroom was huge with a large walk in shower, double vanity and tile and marble throughout. The tub was small but big enough for 2. There were two large screen TV's and an in room fridge stocked with various items. The hotel has a full service spa, state of the art exercise room and a beautiful pool area with cabana rooms for rent. The room choices are varied from more standard hotel rooms to pool suites with balconies and the above mentioned suites, some with balconies. The hotel is located in the heart of the museum district bordering Rice University and the new metro line. It is a bustling uptown environment. They have a full service upscale restaurant but we chose to eat at a more low key venue. The rates are expensive but reasonable for the level of amenities. Be aware that parking is limited and costs $20 per day with valet service. Improvements I would recommend would be an in room stereo system with Ipod dock. Otherwise, I would rate this in the top 10 of all hotels that I have ever stayed in. I would highly recommend it for an anniversary get away or first night of a honeymoon before you leave town for your ultimate destination. They have some unique romance suites. Caution for families: if you are offended by semi-nude paintings and photos you might not want to bring the kids.

I stayed here for two days only and the staff was friendly in general - i had no issues at all.

This place is like a W but much nicer, personal and i liked the general atmosphere in the hotel since it was young but still with a mature style. This is probably my best stay in a designed hotel since normally you get a crappy service in design hotels but this place was different or maybe it was the southern hospitality that made the difference, whatever, i had a great stay and i will come back for sure and hopefully i will have more time to spend in the hotel as well.

Stayed in Zaza over Memorial Day week-end and felt like we were the most important guests, even the hotel was hopping with activity. Great bellman and valet help; found chilled flavored water in the lobby along with cookies and pastries. The lobby is elegant yet comfortable with great art work throughout as well whimsical paintings in the elevators, and tasteful fashion photography throughout. The room was wonderful; it's worth getting a balcony, with comfy linens high thread count linens and pillows. Large TV, and quiet room. There is also coffee and pastries placed on a credenza on each floor each morning till 10 am. Good fitness area that looks out to the swimming pool, which is kind of small, but quite a place for people watching. Cabanas are available around the pool too. We'll be returning for 4th July; it's a great place.

The lobby will "wow" you with its modern decor and lounge-type lighting. The rooms are nicely appointed. I stayed in a slightly above average sized balcony room with an excellent view of Medical Area and Downtown. No tub, only shower with nice Moulton Brown amenities. The insulation is a bit lacking as I could hear the whole episode of DWTS my neighbor was watching. One caution -- the Spa Cafe is no longer operational and the advertised gift shop in the hotel information is non-exisitent. The staff do not necessarily go above and beyond with service. Especially the "shuttle." It took an hour for us to be picked up after a meeting in the Medical Center. The pool area is relaxing and inviting for an "urban" location.
