Like a couple of other reviewers, I recently ended up at the Hotel ZaZa on business because almost everything else in the Houston area was booked from Hurricane Ike displacements/work crews etc... My room was booked as a package with a rental car on Expedia for 1 night for about $250.

Upon checking-in around 9:00PM to this concept hotel, the young man at the front desk enthusiastically upgraded me from my "Petite King" to the huge, posh SoHo Theme Suite as it happened to be available for that one night I was staying (he mentioned repeatedly that this was probably the best upgrade he'd ever seen). The "room" was actually a large, fully decked out, loft-style apartment (I'll load photos and a "cribs" video walkthorough eventually). Although I only ended up being in the room about 6 hours because of my work schedule, it was worth it... or so I thought.

At check out, the front desk attempted to charge my credit card for the room, until I reminded them that the trip was already pre-paid in full via Expedia. He agreed and sent me on my way. However, the duplicate charge still showed up on my credit card bill a few days later, including a $4.00 charge for a small bottle of Fiji water I distinctly did not consume. Upon calling, I had to wait on hold for a manager just to find someone who understood the concept that I had been double-charged, who in turn, also tried to charge me for the bottle of water I didn't drink. I explained nicely that although it's not much money, I didn't drink the water and would like the full amount charged to my credit card reversed. He agreed, without apology.

Just looked at my credit card statement, and although the double charges were reversed, guess what I still got charged for... nice work ZaZa. I hope the $4 you dinged me for is worth it, since it, along with the poor handling of the bill itself, effectively nuetralized what would have otherwise been a great experience and a rave review from this guest.

I had originally been booked in a Holiday Inn, but because displaced hurricane victims were still occupying the rooms, my reservation was cancelled by Hotels.com, and I was upgraded (at no extra cost!) to the Hotel ZaZa. What a stroke of luck (for me...I hope the hurricane victims get to go home soon!)

Everything about Hotel ZaZa is top-notch. I was greeted by the valet parking team, who quickly whisked my car away almost as fast as the bellhop grabbed my bags. The check-in couldn't have been more pleasant, and the lobby decor was astounding. Everything about the hotel is beautiful (my room was decorated in shades of olive, tan, black and white with large framed black and white portraits hanging on the walls). The bathroom was especially impressive with a clear glass sink, glass shower stall, and Molton Brown products a-plenty. The bed was supremely comfortable, and the HD flatscreen mounted to the wall (which was a mirror) made it all the more enjoyable. My only regret was that I was travelling alone and not with my sweetie, because this is one sexy hotel!

Do take a moment to eat at Monarch, the hotel's restaurant. Even their bar menu was superb, and my breakfast fritatta of egg whites, tomato, basil pesto, and fresh mozzarella was divine.

My only complaint is that upon check out, I learned that the valet parking wasn't free (since there was no other option--no free lot in which I could have parked my own car, I thought it was a little sneaky to charge $21 + tax for something that was mandatory). But overall, the experience was fantastic, and I would love to go back and spend some more time there.

I travel to Houston on business frequently, but found a shortage of available hotels post-Ike on this particular trip. The ZaZa and one other no-name hotel were my only options, so the ZaZa it was, and what a great turn of luck! This is an upscale boutique style hotel in the museum district of Houston, formerly known as the Warwick. Every staff member was friendly and eager to assist. Coffee, tea, and newspapers were provided in the morning at the Butler's Pantry near the elevator.

My King petite room on the 4th was anything but petite, and was equipped with a large work area, free wireless internet, and 42" HDTV. The bathroom was on the small side, but plenty of room for 1 person, with Molton Brown personal products provided. My window overlooked the beautiful pool area, which I did not visit, but it certainly looked inviting. For a turndown treat, a nighttime greeting and elegant snack was left pillowside. I had dinner at their onsite restaurant The Monarch and the service and and the food were top notch.

Having stayed at a few "W's" recently, it has sort of the same shagadelic vibe, but is a more mature style than the W. I read some of the past reviews of the ZaZa and I can only assume that since some of the poor reviews prior to April, they must have made some changes because there was no sign of anything to complain about during my stay. Will definitely try to stay here again on future trips, as well as give the one in Dallas a try sometime!

When planning my trip to Houston, I asked what was "the" classic hotel. I was told the Warwick, now called the Hotel Za Za. What good advice. This is an elegant hotel in the right area of Houston with all the things that make a grand hotel grand. We were met by friendly valets that parked our car and bellman that carried our bags. Everyone was friendly and anxious to help. Coffee was provided each morning at the "Butler's Pantry" near the elevator along with a Houston Chronicle. Breakfast each morning was really special. It's fun to be treated like a big shot every now and again. The orange juice was an orange 30 minutes prior. The bar was busy, but we were seated and enjoyed our outdoor table overlooking Main St. and the fountain.

For people not used to staying at old, grand hotels, the bath rooms are frequently small. Especially when compared to modern bath rooms. Sometines the buildings support structure gets in the way. Our toilet was cramped, but I'm not one to look for problems. Huge glass shower and the colest sink I've ever seen.

When I return to Houston and I am making the decision as to where to stay, I'll stay at Za Za.
