My husband and I stayed at ZaZa while visiting Houston for four nights. It is a beautiful hotel located in a great area of Houston, the Museum District, with a large park, lovely neighborhoods and Rice Univ. as well as being near many restaurants and shopping. We arrived too early to check in but were able to sit by the beautiful 2nd floor pool patio until our room was ready. We had a deluxe petite queen, it was small but done perfectly. The bathroom is very beautiful and had Molton Brown products, there was a very large desk area with many office essentials provided. The bed was very comfortable with nice linens and a great throw at the bottom. The turn down service in the evening is a nice touch as is the coffee in the morning located near the elevators on each floor. The gym on the 2nd floor is nice a little small but had complimentary water and fruit available. The bar on the first floor was fun and had a fantastic patio. Valet parking is the only option, seems to be the norm in Houston, there is a $22 charge each day, but they were very quick and courteous about it. Over all a great hotel experience, classy and quirky!

Hotel ZaZA has the worst customer service you will find in the hotel industry. I just recently went on an annual girls trip and we thought we would stay at a nice hotel. Four of the six of us had money stolen out of our wallets and we were treated as if we had stolen the money from our friends. They did absolutely nothing to help. You would expect more from a five star hotel, but we received absolutely nothing. They were incompetent and rude and I would not recommended this hotel to anyone!

Management response from ZaZaGM, General Manager
(Management representative)
Jul 30, 2008
Unfortunately, these ladies either lost or had money stolen from them. Following my investigation I found no one had entered their room who was not authorized to do so and those who entered were interviewed. I found no evidence that any staff member took the missing money. These ladies could have lost this money elsewhere or had it stolen when they were not in the hotel but we will never know for sure. At the end of the day they were still inconvenienced and lost money and I do not want them or anyone thinking we at Hotel ZaZa do not care. After several conversations with one of the group members and emails to the others I did offer compensation as a good will gesture. We can assume no liability but wanted to do right by our customers. Based on the review date, this review was likely written prior to my conversations with the guests and in all fairness should have been changed to show the hotel did act in good faith and good service. We will always try to do the right thing.

The hotel is situated in a relatively quiet area close to the museums. The interior decoration is nice enough and the rooms are very spacious. The bathroom is also immense and the ammenities are very nice. However, the towels were rolled up and placed underneath the sink (at least in this room) and there was only one hook at the back of the door to hang it up. Very designer, not very practical. But most shocking was that my room felt like it had not been cleaned in ages. Hair, dust, old lipstick and tissues were just some of the items hidden in corners, behind curtains, udnerneath the desk etc. Totally unacceptable for a hotel of this caliber.

I booked a spa weekend with several girlfriends at the hotel. I visited 6 weeks prior to check out all the facilities, which were lovely. I booked the spa, rooms, and a dinner reservation at that point. I then confirmed the reservations one week prior to the event. The hotel contacted me 2 hours before check-in to let me know that they had double-booked the spa and were cancelling my reservation. They offered no restitution or alternatives. After scrambling to get a spa appointment elsewhere, I returned to the hotel for dinner. Arriving at my reservation time at 9pm, my party of 6 people was not seated until 11pm. We were each offered a free drink at the bar after we complained after an hour of waiting, When we were seated, however, the hotel manager said quite rudely to us "I trust you're happy now." Though the meal was tasty and the rooms were quite nice, I was so appalled at the incredibly poor level of service and the bad attitude of the staff that I felt compelled to write a letter to the management and write this review. I've stayed at many hotels over the years and have never experienced such poor quality of service. It is a shame considering the high quality of the hotel's amenities.

I stayed at the ZaZa for a conference, for two nights. It is a lovely hotel. I would describe the decor as "F Scott Fitzgerald meets Teddy Rosevelt, with a James Dean imitation thrown in". Despite its eclectic, albeit, nostalgic decorating inspiration, the ZaZa manages to pull it together in very good taste. There are many nice touches, such as fun candies, rather than the conventional "bon bon" at turn down, a clever saying on the pillow, and at the conference, various toys distributed on the tables for fidgeting.

Pros: fun and playful, comfortable bed, flat screen plasma tv, lovely pool, spa on premises, good location in Houston near museums, Rice, and Medical Center. No coffee in room, but, in foyer on each floor and quite good. Excellent staff and service.
Cons: No tub in bath (shower only), odd photo of a waif-like child in bathroom made me feel stared at and somewhat judged (the latter is just "my problem" I am sure). Bathroom very small. Many of my friends had trouble finding the plug in the bathroom (its behind the hand towel rack). No nearby places to eat in easy walking distance (though there is a very good restaurant on premises).
