I stayed at the ZaZa for a conference, for two nights. It is a lovely hotel. I would describe the decor as "F Scott Fitzgerald meets Teddy Rosevelt, with a James Dean imitation thrown in". Despite its eclectic, albeit, nostalgic decorating inspiration, the ZaZa manages to pull it together in very good taste. There are many nice touches, such as fun candies, rather than the conventional "bon bon" at turn down, a clever saying on the pillow, and at the conference, various toys distributed on the tables for fidgeting.
Pros: fun and playful, comfortable bed, flat screen plasma tv, lovely pool, spa on premises, good location in Houston near museums, Rice, and Medical Center. No coffee in room, but, in foyer on each floor and quite good. Excellent staff and service.
Cons: No tub in bath (shower only), odd photo of a waif-like child in bathroom made me feel stared at and somewhat judged (the latter is just "my problem" I am sure). Bathroom very small. Many of my friends had trouble finding the plug in the bathroom (its behind the hand towel rack). No nearby places to eat in easy walking distance (though there is a very good restaurant on premises).
