We were taking a weekend away to go to the Houston Rodeo. We had heard about ZaZa so we gave it a try. What a cool hotel! Not like any hotel we have seen in this part of the country. The hotel is decorated with modern artwork and colors and has a very rich feel to it. The rooms are comfortable and made us feel like we were staying in a friends loft apartment. The bed was fabulous-we didn't want to get up.

We had drinks Saturday in the hotel bar which was hoping with activity. The martini's were wonderful and the staff was attentive. Breakfast was also very good and we found the staff to be available and helpful if needed but not over bearing.

We spent $275 for a king room with balcony and views of the city. Well worth the price we paid. We even walked across the street to the museum which was unplanned but a nice surprise.

My stay was a huge disappointment. Rooms are stylish, comfortable bed, nice tv--but bathroom offers no counter space--or even a shelf for personal toiletries.
Shower required 15 minutes--no exaggeration--to receive hot water. I called, a technician came and all he could offer was that I should let the water run until it got warm. Same story the next day. No offer to change rooms or explanation.
According to website, printed material and bell staff, the restaurant is open until 11 pm. I arrived at 10:35 pm for a late dinner and was informed that the restaurant seats no one after 10:30 (yes, the slow hot water in the shower pushed me past the "unpublished" deadline). Not helpful. I was told I could order from the menu in the bar---after being seated there, I was informed the kitchen was closed and the only offering was cold nibbles. Went to bed hungry.
Front desk was unable to provide change for a $20 on a Friday evening when I arrived or the next day.
The coffee and tea on each floor was a nice touch--except the coffee pot was empty and hot water for tea was cold. I had to call down to the desk to have it replenished.
Staff was friendly but not helpful. Exceptions--the valet captain was outstanding and the restaurant hostess was completely indifferent.
The hotel responded to my evaluation--not by offering to credit my account for the horrible experience of a room without hot water--but with the "promise" of a better experience when I return. Given my experience, there will not be a return. A hotel should correct a lousy experience so that guests will want to return.

I was given a different room than I booked at first then switched into another room on a floor with noisy teens who kept me up until 3am. The next day I woke up with a pounding migraine and was finally put in another room only after repeated requests to change rooms and indicating I'd leave early if I couldn't be put in another room.

The Spa person who did my manicure did a great job on Sat. The person who did my pedicure on Sunday did the worst job I ever had. The nails were runny and she used a large brush to erase errors but also took off half of the runny polish.

Finally someone stole personal information from my luggage which I left at the front desk while I got this horrible pedicure and made phony checks with my account number with her name and has stolen $1000 so far from my account so now I've had to close my checking account and file fradulent charges.

This was the absolute worst hotel experience I've ever had in my entire life. I was scouting out the hotel for a possible wedding but I'd never want my family or friends to come within 100 ft of this place.

Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else unless you want to get taken.

We stayed at Hotel ZaZa in Houston this past weekend for 2 nights. My daughter got married at Rice University, and although we live in Houston, we wanted to have a special weekend close to all the wedding events. We also booked a Fantastico Suite (small suite) for the newly-weds for the wedding night.

Check-in was fast and smooth, and the standard room we booked was very spacious. The bathroom was nice, with a tub, but not well-thought-out, as there was not much room to stow your toiletries, etc. I did not like the see-through glass sink either, as one reviewer noted before me.

The Fantistico suite was 2 large rooms, but a curiously small bathroom, which was SMALLER than the bathroom in our standard room. Go figure. It was a corner room though, so the view from the bedroom was glorious.

The beds were comfy, the decor edgy, which might not be for some. I loved the Moulton Brown products in the bathroom.

This hotel is VERY busy on the weekends, mostly for the club crowd I believe. That does effect the overnight guests though, as the valet parking situation backs up fast. You have to luck out to drive in at the right time without a line out to the street, AND departing is a nightmare, as there is just no way they are going to get your car to you fast. In our situation, the limo hired to take my daughter and her bridesmaids to the wedding was stuck in line trying to get up to the port cochere for 20 minutes. Caused some stressful moments for the bride and the MOB (me)!

My biggest and most serious issue with this hotel is this: in the flurry of activity of getting all of our things out of the hotel when we checked out after our 2-night stay, I left my mother-of-the bride dress in a white dress bag laying on the bed in our room The bed linens were white also, so it blended it and was hard to see. I missed it, my husband missed it, and the bellman who came to load our luggage on the valet cart missed it too. I didn't notice that we did not have it until later in the evening at home. I called ZaZa first thing this morning, left a message at housekeeping, then called again and spoke to someone at the desk who promised to pass the message on. The same desk person called several hours later to say I had not been forgotten, but that housekeeping was very busy today. Late today I got a call from the head of housekeeping who reported that nothing had been listed on her staff's inventory as being left in our room yesterday morning. I pleaded with her to help me find my dress that I had worn only once to my daughter's wedding. She said she would look, speak to her staff and call me back. Sadly, I do not expect to see it again. I am afraid it is gone and I have no recourse since it is my word against the ZaZa housekeeping staff. I am trying to mentally and emotionally prepare for that (and the $400 loss), but I am so disheartened that it happened and our joyous weekend ended on that note.

Would I recommend this hotel? No, because apparently some of their staff are less than honest. Other than than, and the difficult valet parking situation, it was a nice hotel, and worth the wedding rate of @ $200 for a standard room. Unfortunately my stay there cost me much more than tthat.

I scheduled a business lunch at the Hotel Zaza in Houston's restaurant, The Monarch. Upon arrival I asked if my guest had arrived. This was a first meeting and I did not know what she looked like. I was assured she had not. I gave them her name and asked to please be on the lookout for her. I was seated in the main walkway through the restuarant so that I could see anyone arriving or departing. I repeatedly went to the host stand to ask if she had arrived or if anyone had called. I was unable to get a line on my cell anywhere within the hotel or restaurant (one of the waiters suggested I try walking down the street...it was raining). After 50 minutes of waiting, I saw a very annoyed looking woman waiting to get her parking ticket validated. I asked a gentleman (who looked like a manager) if she had been looking for someone and he said he didn't know. I called out the name of the person I was to meet with and she turned around. She had arrived minutes before me and had been told by the host/ess that I had not arrived yet and that tthey would seat her and let me know that she was there when I arrived. She was very mad and no longer had time for a meeting. This meeting took months to set up and could cost my company $$$$. The response I got from everyone in the restaurant was "I didn't know". I also left a message with the General Manager - NO RESPONSE. Bad Service at its very worst!!!
