I heard about this Deli on the food network and on another show called Deli Man before a business trip I was to take to Houston. I am an enthusiastic Deli maven and felt compelled to visit Kenny and Ziggy's. The location is easy to find near the impressive shopping Galleria and its appearance was pleasant and clean. Many traditional visuals: hanging salamis at the well stocked deli counter and caricatures on the walls by the tables. The waiters were pleasant, some more engaging than other but all helpful and concerned about customer satisfaction. The menu was impressively large with a variety of salads and non traditional deli food that looked good to eat. I wanted Deli. I ordered the mishmash chicken soup with the famous kreplach, matzoh balls, eggs noodles, soup chicken and vegetables in a large bowl. The taste of everything in the rich broth was perfect and tasted old school homemade. Not sure how it could have been better. Then I ordered a combination of hot corned beef and pastrami on two potato latkes. The portion was generous to say the least and the meats that are homemade by K&Z were as good tasting as any of the great delis I have had in New York, Cleveland or elsewhere. I also tried some on the rye bread which was authentic and good but not at the same level of freshness as the other ingredients. The home made pickles which were complimentary were excellent. I preferred the well done over the half done pickles. To finish I ordered the cheesecake with strawberries on top. It was a huge piece with fresh strawberries in the topping sauce. The cheese cake was perfect! A dense outer crust surrounding the fluffy yet firm cheese center made this a perfect dessert. I needed to take some to go. I need to return many more times to try the other classics on the menu. If I lived in Houston I would be a regular.
