“Make sure to save room!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

I had dinner here for the first time recently. My dinner here made my stay in Houston worthwhile!
Service was impeccable, food was fantastic (I happened to have the vegetarian meal, but my co-workers had whitefish and shrimp and they were both delicious), ambiance was fine dining with a warmth to it.
My one word of wisdom for you, make sure to save room for dessert. From the French press coffee, to the lemon meringue and the piece de resistance the carrot cake. OMG!
There was not one misstep in this dining experience and I can't wait to come back!
By the way, make sure you make reservations for this one!

“Expense Account Restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

This is an expensive and ostentatious place. Although claiming to be a seafood restaurant they offer no local Gulf seafood. Perhaps even the shrimp are flown in from Florida as are the overpriced stone crabs. The food is mostly mediocre without any distinctive taste.

The place itself, although well appointed, is dark and noisy. The service though is excellent and the waiters are attentive and eager to please.

“You served it that way??”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

Took an out of town friend to dinner. Service was outstanding! Cocktails great. (One each, just so you know we weren't dissatisfied drunks.) Food? Absolutely mediocre.
My fish, trout with a crispy topping tasted like dry something with crispy topping. My friend's sea bass was not to her taste, but I thought it was prepared perfectly. The spoiler, was the Alaskan King Crab. Served in the shell. Melted butter was brought to the table. You would think you would dig out the crab and dip it in the hot butter, right? NO!!! They poured the butter over the crab shells. You then picked up the greasy, buttery, giant shells to pull out your COLD crab. Lousy presentation and cold crab. You needed a shower, a bath, a wet wipe or all three when you finished the dish.
Best part... the Caeser salad. Delicious. But it was a small part of a sadly mediocre meal.
So, it is an expense account restaurant with expensive wine and expensive food. Go for the salad and some Oysters. They probably can't go wrong on the fresh oysters.
Oh, and they really, really, really need to clean or replace the carpet. It looked very dirty.

“Amazing Food and 5 Star Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

Growing up in Austin ..,I have loved Truluck's for a long time!!! This visit to the location in Houston was no exception. Our server was Nadine and she was over the top!!!! Her server skill set was amazing . Very attentive but not intrusive. I was dining with two of my co-workers and we were all impressed. We started with the goat cheese which was so flavorful!! Traditional, Olive, and Sun dried Tomato were the offerings. The bread at the table was cinnamon and walnut which paired well with the goat cheese. My entree was the shrimp and crab grits. Three letters OMG!!! This is one of my favorites and Truluck's version did not disappoint. The three of us shared the carrot cake which was a masterpiece in and of itself. This cake was the best carrot cake I have ever eaten...so moist.....needless to say I would return in a heartbeat! Thank you Nadine and Truluck's for an excellent dining experience

“Great food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013 via mobile

I cannot fault this place, the food was fantastic and the service was exceptional. The oysters were fresh (and extremely large!!!) and the mains were truly delicious. A good selection of wines catering for all budgets.
