Locals usually know the best restaurants in their own turf and my friend Melissa certainly hit the bullseye when she suggested El Pueblito Place. Located in the artsy section of Houston, TX - Melissa promised us great food and a fun atmosphere. The place certainly delivered. We sat in the "patio", a huge backyard that can easily seat 100 guests. Tables comprise of the inner section which is ringed by white canopied cabanas.
The menu consists of Mexican fare - ceviche, ensalates, tacos, quesadillas and house specialties; chicken, fish and meat plates piled high with rice, beans, yucca and condiments. The hands down winner were the fish tacos - grilled snapper in a corn tortilla with a tangy sauce. Absolutely delish.
Of course what good is Mexican cuisine without a Margarita? El Pueblito offers monster sized margaritas in fresh lime and fruit flavors. Not strong enough for ya? Toss in an extra shot of Cuervo for $2 bucks.
I'd be remiss if I forgot to mention the live band. Lively is more like it. The night we visited a 40 something band was playing covers of Mex faves - Santana, Richie Valens and the like. The music, the food, the ambience all made for a festive and entertaining time.
