Description: Energy. How befitting that in a city anointed its capital there is a restaurant that has captured its glow. The Remington Restaurant presents a dining experience a lot like Houston - decidedly Modern American with a definite dash of Texas. There’s an open range of envelope-pushing dishes which highlight a feast of fresh, locally produced ingredients and an international approach to their preparation. Busy executives can take advantage of a special lunch menu that adheres to tight schedules without sacrificing culinary excellence. The sun-spackled dining room is open for breakfast and lunch, with evening dining available on Fridays and Saturdays. The dining venue also offers outdoor seating, weather permitting.

“Great American Bar. Harry is an All American Bartender”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2011

From what I've learned a few years back the Remington Bar inside the St Regis Hotel used to be quite the happening place with a very big crowd. I'm not exactly sure why it's so much quieter these days, but such is the nature of popular places. The bar itself is mostly done in beautiful wood and the furnishings are first class. Frankly, the St Regis is my favorite hotel in Houston. Not far from the Galleria and inside the loop. But, back to the Remington.
Harry is the regular bartender. It's hard to find bartenders like him any more. He's sociable, yet discreet. Attentive without bugging you. He knows every drink there is and is great to talk to about everything from history to politics to sports. Also, I had a rib eye steak there and it was absolutely excellent and I am a tough grader of food, especially steaks.
Just an idea, but if you are looking for a very discreet, first class place to take a date, lover, wife for a drink this is a good place.
Alas, the only reason I don't give the Remington five stars is that it's just too quiet. Once in a while they'll have a band that plays some good old rock'n'roll and motown and the small dance floor is just fine. But, the crowd is definitely in the baby boomer range. That includes me. Other than that, it's usually a bit too quiet here. A shame really because it's a great, classic, upscale American bar.

We arrived at the St. Regis with little time to eat before going downtown to the Alley Theater. Since The Remington is located in the hotel, we gave it a try. What a delight, and apparently unnoticed by locals! Or maybe no one eats at 6PM at a nice restaurant like this.

The dishware was the first thing to catch our eye. Very creative and upbeat. My wife wants to find their supplier. Service was quick and responsive to our timing needs. The head waiter overheard us telling the waiter about our plans for the Alley Theater and brought us printed driving directions on his own accord. The ambiance was just as satisfying. Finally the food was superb.

We liked the spinach salad, creatively fixed with small pieces of fig soaked in port. The combination with the other ingredients was very refreshing for a hot summer afternoon. Bread basket included cornbread, raisin bread and white bread. For entrees, we tried the salmon and the shrimp dishes. Both were creatively fixed and delicious. Overall tab was about $100 for two glasses of wine, a salad split, two entres and coffee.

My only suggestion would be to add some less expensive wines by the glass. The wine list is quite skimpy for wines by the glass, and all I recall are above $10. There are plenty of good wines that can be sold for $7-$8. Hopefully, they'll add them.
