Stayed there just not too long ago, for my conference. Found the hotel on lastminute.com and managed to booked us a room despite all the established hotels in town are fully booked.
For a downtown hotel, the location is not too bad at all, just 3 blocks from the main street and right across the baseball park! Sadly, downtown is kinda dead but its ok.
Room is great but sadly it comes with a small window looking out into the bar, comes with AVEDA toiletries, comfy bed, DVD player, nintendo player (need to pay to play it, so its the movie on demand).
However though, the bed is not clean at all as the few nights we were there, we were bitten by bed bugs. Woke up every morning with bug bite marks all over the body. Didn't dare complained as knowing full well that that is the only room available and there is nothing we can do about it.
Told the receptionist when we checked and they actually apologized for it and will take note about it.
All in all, the hotel is still a good and nice hotel to stay in, staff are all very very nice and friendly except the chap that checked us in when we arrived initially. He could do with some smiles though but hats off to Spencer and Filimon for making our stay enjoyable still.
Oh yeah, the steakhouse across the hotel, VIc's and Anthony's...they serve the best steak in town! Absolutely wonderful and mouth watering steaks!!!
We had a brilliant night at the Vic's then went across the ball park to watch a game between the Astros and Nationals. Absolutely brilliant!!
Makes our stay in Houston absolutely memorable despite being bitten by bugs.

I booked through the conference travel desk and I asked for a non-smoking room. When I arrived they put me in a smoking room without telling me. When I complained they told me the hotel was completely booked and that the non-smoking room is not guaranteed and would not be available until the next day.
I have asthma problems and cannot stay in a smoking room but the manager told me that it was my responsibility to read the disclaimer and that basically this was not her problem.
I went to the Hilton the first night and returned to this hotel the next day for the non smoking room.
The front desk is staffed with only 2 people who also serve as bell and concierge and who get overwhelmed when a big group shows up.
The gym is stuffy and the equipment is outdated.

If you want a non-smoking room go to the Hilton where they guarantee it.

Traveled on business. Room was a good size and fittings new. Bed was comfortable. Room service was swift and food was generally great. Front desk was efficient and helpful. Shuttle service for downtown was useful.

Things that let the hotel down: fruit plate breakfast was great except one morning, some of the fruit was mouldy. The room had an adjoining door so there was alot of noise from the adjoining room. The guys outfront who are there to arrange taxis were surly and it was difficult to work out of they were actually helping you or not.

I just retuned from a recent stay at Inn at the Ball Park in downtown Houston. While I was looking forward to this stay in this so called 4 star hotel, nothing prepared me for the all round disappointment I had during my stay.
Upon arrive at the hotel, I was told there is no self parking and the only option is 25.00 dollar a day valet parking, I felt the price to valet is extreme since other Hotels in the area charge half as much. The person at the front desk suggested that after 5PM on weekends you can park at the meters outside on the street near the hotel for free, but the car must be moved in the morning by 5AM or it will be towed and they cant guarantee your cars safety if I chose to park there…I decided to take the chance instead of paying the extorting fee of 25.00 for valet…I will just get up at 5AM in morning to pay the meter. I park my car at 5:30 PM as the person at the front desk suggested, problem with that is, and free parking starts 6:00 PM NOT 5:00PM as I was told by the front desk staff. …so leaving the hotel for dinner that night, I find a 25.00 parking ticket on my car,, The hotels front desk staff doesn’t even know the hours of the meters in front of their own hotel…
Back to the hotel itself, it claims to be a 4 Star hotel, nothing could be further from the truth…its seems to be a 2 or 2 ½ star hotel at best… The hotel is very stuffy and feels very uncomfortable and unwelcoming when you walk through the doors. The front desk staff is very uncaring and had plenty of attitudes to go around, luckily I had very little interaction with the staff after check in, other then wanting a copy of my bill at check out which for some reason they decided they couldn’t do...
The rooms are normal sized rooms, they are all over done in baseball themes, and I understand it’s across the street from Minute Maid Park…but honestly, does everything in the hotel have to be about baseball? Could not find anything in the hotel that did not in some way pertain to baseball... I love baseball, but I even felt it was over done; this might give you some idea. how much,”in your face” they wanted to be with it. …they make it a point to let you know…they are all about baseball and don’t you forget it.
During my stay I had problems with an overflowing toilet; the mattress is very old and uncomfortable… I had several items that were left from a previous guest and not removed from my room before my stay. The room did not look like it had been clean appropriately.
Another strange thing about this hotel is the previews of the movies you can watch. When I turned on the TV to watch the previews of movies available, after showing the new releases, they would spend 10 minutes on what’s avaible on the adult pay-per-view channel, and remind you that , it would only show up on your bill as entertainment…This was a regular movie preview channel, I was shocked that they would show near explicit preview scenes of adult movies on this channel since this is the first thing that comes on when you turn on the TV and Children can easily have access to this…
I feel the hotel try’s its best to aim for the middle aged business men. I really can’t think of anyone else who would want to stay here.
If Landry’s owned INN At the Ball Park wants to truly move up to a 4 star hotel status, they need to retrain their staff,,, fix the over flow problems with toilets,,,purchase new beds, have better parking options, and this is just a start.
Landry’s needs to stick to the restaurant business and not venture into running hotels. They seem to have no clue how to run this hotel.
With better options for a hotel in the downtown Houston area, I would look elsewhere.
I don’t plan to stay at this hotel again and I don’t recommend it.

I recently booked a Saturday night at the hotel when my husband and I were to attend a wedding in Houston. We greatly looked forward to the inn since my husband is a huge baseball fan. Unfortunately, I had to cancel when the bride became deathly ill the Friday before the wedding. I called immediately that Friday afternoon, but I was informed that it was too late to cancel the charge to my card. I asked the reservations person to state the cancellation policy. She explained the following:
- The hotel required cancellations to be made 36-hours before the scheduled stay.
- Had I requested an email confirmation when I made the reservation, the email would have stated that cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance. I unfortunately had not requested an email confirmation.

After she explained this, I asked her,"So if I had requested an email confirmation, I could have cancelled today, but since I hadn't, I was required to cancel 36 hours before?" She replied, "Yes". I thought that was completely ridiculous and had never heard of such a thing.

I then called again and asked to speak to a manager. I was connected to the General Manager Shelly Guerra. I explained to her the situation. She placed me on hold to research what I had been told. When she came back, she explained that what the reservations person had explained was false. She explained that cancellations required 36 hours and that the email confirmation system was actually broken. Although my card would be charged, she stated that she might be able to compensate me for my loss considering that my situation might be considered an exception. She took my name and phone and said that she would call back shortly.

It will be 2 weeks tomorrow and no returned call. I called last week and left a message with my phone number, but still no returned call.

I personally would not ever book here again. The bad customer service is not worth the risk to me when Houston has so many other wonderful luxury hotels available. If you choose to stay here, then take my advice, request in writing or email a copy of the cancellation policy. You never know when you will need it.
