This hotel is one of the gems of the Hilton chain, and I've stayed in dozens of them. The lobby area and the rooms are new and beautiful. There is a lot to do and see next to this hotel, and if it weren't too expensive, I'd stay here often as opposed to other Hilton properties in Houston.

I just got back from a 4 nights stay at this hotel. I booked it on Priceline for only $60 a night and therefore it was a great deal. I needed two beds in the room and got that taken care of with very little trouble. When we asked for extra pillows and blankets for friends who crashed on the floor, they happily obliged. The rooms are decent size with a big LG LCD tv and a good sized bathrooms. The beds were absolutely heavenly. In addition, the pool and terrace were quite nice. That said, I found the $10 charge to use the fitness room ridiculous and restaurants, etc. are a couple of blocks away. (Which in 100 degree weather can be too far.) Despite all of this, I was pleased with the value that I got; all of my friends kept commenting that it was one of the nicest hotels they had ever stayed at.)

After a long day, it was nice to see a smiling face at the front desk. I was checking in early and they got me a room with no hassle....and no extra fee. The health club is the best that I have seen in a hotel and I travel a lot. Location was great and so convenient to calls I had to make downtown. Would highly recommend.

Form the outside it's just another large US downtown hotel. Reception is spacious but queueing system to check in is a bit disorganised which is annoying after flying for 10 hours to get there. The room I had was decidedly shabby, many of the fixtures and fittings, particularly the bathroom, had seen better days. Moreover (and this seems to be general with the Hilton chain these days) the little niceties that make a true 5-star hotel were simply missing, eg, bathroom slippers. The cost for internet in your room is an extortionate $11 a day, so I had to drag my laptop down to the lobby to check emails and the like. Bar is functional if souless, although good marks to Spencer's restaurant for some excellent food. All-in-all at over $160 a night, very poor value. But of course it is next door to the convention centre which is why people end up staying there!! A genuine case of a captive audience.
