The hotel is accross the street from a park, with a fun playground for kids, which is not often seen in the middle of the city. There was a jazz festival held on the park grounds during our stay, where we actually got to see Reuben Studdard perform.
To visit other districts, it's about a 7 block walk to a monorail station, which we used for travel to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. If you don't want to walk 7 blocks to the monorail, the hotel provides a free shuttle that takes you to the station. Unfortunately, the shuttle driver never showed up, so we walked. The hotel offers guests corporate discounts for the Museum of Natural Science, which saves you money, and you can purchase tickets from a Members line at the museum which saves time. Be sure to check with the concierge for these little perks.
In the afternoon, the hotel offered free juice in the lobby, which was refreshing after a day at the museum and a 15 minute walk back from the monorail station.
The hotel swimming pool w/ jacuzzi is indoor, on the 24th floor on the west side of the building with wonderful views of the Houston skyline. There's an outdoor observation deck where people can sun bathe or just enjoy the view.
The only downside (for me) was that I felt the front desk could have been more knowledgable about corporate policies. Because I purchased the stay via Priceline, a few members of the front desk would not take my HHonors account number, saying I would not earn points for my stay, which I totally understand. However, I still get points for incidentals (which they were denying). I called their corporate offices to verify and had to make this point before the front desk would enter my number into their systems. A little frustrating...
With all said, we had a very pleasant stay and would definitely visit Houston again.
