I've been climbing at TRG for the last two years since I moved to Houston. We usually go about twice a week. The people who work here are usually pretty chill. They like to remind you about safety which I appreciate, although some of the employees go about it more gracefully than others. They are open until 10 on every day except Sunday so you can climb late.
Usually the routes get changed every few months. I wish they changed them more often because I'm there so often and want new things to climb. Also every now and then a rating seems pretty arbitrary. I'll fly up a 10C and then get stuck on a 9-? Not super consistent.
The only cons I have are that it is ridiculously dark and the walls are short. On the leads especially and this I find totally strange for an indoor gym. As many people learn to lead climb here it seems like decent lighting isn't a whole lot to ask. Compared to my home gym Ibex in Kansas City these walls are short. We sometimes climb and then drop down and climb the same wall again to get a workout. Not something they can fix, just not a pro.
Overall we like climbing at this gym.
