I travel to Houston frequently on business and spend usually spend at least 4 nights here when I'm in town.

For openers, there is almost no nightlife in Downtown Houston after 6:30 -- even the local Macy's closes at 6.

That being said, this is a very nice hotel in Downtown. The hotel offers an excellent value for the money. The rooms are comfortable and a good size. There's an outdoor pool (only 3 feet deep) and a hottub.

The restaurant/bar is reasonably priced . There's free wired broadband in the room.

My ONLY complaint (it isn't much...just annoying) is that the closets in some of the rooms are tiny (like 26 inches wide). This is probably because the hotel's built in a historic older office building and sandwiching the rooms(and no the rooms ARE NOT small) into the floorplan produced some unusually shaped rooms -- definitely not a cookie cutter "big box" hotel.

By the way, if you're familiar with the Houston pedestrian tunnel system, this hotel is across the street from Macy's which has a entrance into the tunnel system. You can get to most of the downtown offices without going outside which is important if you've ever experienced Houston's heat and torrential downpours

I stayed at the hotel last night on business because we were taking clients to the theater downtown. I usually try and stay at full service hotels although this downtown Courtyard was very nice. The historic building was quaint and my room was one of the largest I've ever had in a Courtyard. It was clean, the linens were nice and the staff very friendly and accommodating. I had breakfast in the restaurant and it was excellent as well.

Just stayed there. Good hotel in the heart of downtown. If you aren't traveling outside the city take a cab ($22) a day for parking at the hotel and there are plenty of cabs to choose from. If you looking for some good beer and plenty of tvs, goto Flying Saucer. 200 beers to choose from and plenty of tvs to watch sports.
Across the street from the Hotel is a Macy's so if you forgot something you can get it there. Staff at the front desk is some of the best I've dealt with (and I travel a lot). Very friendly. Pool is on the third floor and very nice and outside. Only concern is the street people. But you get that if you are in any major city. I would suggest however to not walk around by yourself at night. Take a cab to be safe. All and all nice place and ask the valets for any good places to go. They'll give you plenty of ideas and a cab to get your there. Lastly for those Starbucks Coffee lovers. There is a store right next to the hotel.

  • Liked — Proximity to the customer that I was there to see
  • Disliked — Street People

Courtyard properties are so similar it's hard to to pick out distinguishing features, but the notable things about this one are its location in an older building and the friendly, upbeat attitude of the staff. My room and bathroom were a bit smaller than average, but had nice, high ceilings and a huge window. The bed seemed a little worn down but comfortable, with nice linens. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and threw in a few nice touches like a bag of chocolates at check-in. The pasta I ordered from room service was well above average--hot and nicely seasoned, with fresh grated cheese and a crisp salad. The same food is available from the lobby cafe, which you'll likely need since nothing in downtown Houston is open after 5:00 PM. If you insist on walking the creepy, deserted streets in search of food, make sure you ask the front desk for a destination first. You're unlikely to find anything on your own.

After reading some of the previous reviews, I wasn't sure how comfortable this property would be. My motivation was that it was two blocks from the Hyatt Regency which charges $350 on the weeknights. If you're at an event at the Regency and can't justify the room price, this is your next best option. The Courtyard Marriott was 139.00 with the breakfast included. A big plus right there. It's across the street from Macy's so if you forgot to pack some essential clothing item, this is very helpful.

As the saying goes, the sidewalks in Houston roll up at night. It's not in the best spot at night. We walked to the formal event that we were attending from the Courtyard, and passed a throng of homeless bums out in front of the Houston Police Department.

The rooms were comfortable and well-maintained, but nothing in the way of unique decor unless you count the vintage Art-Deco elevator doors (the elevator chamber and machinery is new, trust me). This is a newer hotel (built in 2003) in a older building (built in 1921). We did not have any difficulties with internet access, and the bed was comfortable. The hotel and restaurant staff were cordial and on top of their jobs. No complaints there.

About the one thing I was not fond of is that parking is not included in the room rate. We were charged 17.00 for Saturday night stay and 22.00 for the next night. Parking should be included, and, in my opinion, it's not like downtown Houston is the most exciting place to be unless there's an event at the convention center or arena. That's the only reason I gave the place three stars instead of four. I would stay there again if I had the opportunity to be in downtown Houston.
