Recently stayed at the Magnolia when they hosted a conference I was attending. The rooms---I saw several---are nicely appointed with well selected furniture and accessories. This was one the quietest I have ever been in; the only noise I heard was the door across the hall slamming a time or two. The suites are massive. Nice bar, decent breakfast. Valet parking seemed overly pricey, but the service was exceptional.

  • Liked — Staff, location, rooms.
  • Disliked — Expensive parking.

Hubby and I stayed at Magnolia Houston for 2 nights while in town for the 4/21 Jimmy Buffett concert. Staff very nice, room service quick and tasty, beds and linens terrific, no noise from other rooms. Great location a couple blocks from Minute Maid Park and also a couple blocks from the train that takes you to museum district, zoo, MD Anderson Hospital(and others like Methodist, Memorial Hermann, etc) and Reliant Center...ticket is only $2.00 per person for 24 hour pass. Ben & Jerry's a block away along with 2 Irish pubs and several Mexican/ Tex Mex places plus Vic & Anthony's Steaks and Irma's Southwestern Grill.

  • Liked — Rooms great overall, especially the beds.
  • Disliked — Not really sights to see within walking distance unless going to event at Minute Maid Park

I recently stayed at The Magnolia Hotel for the third time. For the most part, every time has been fine: beds are great, the rooms are clean, nice furniture, lobby and lounge have a cool feel to them, nice excercise room, etc. There are some minor annoyances, like long waits for an elevator, but that is to be expected in the morning and afternoon when most of the guests are starting their day.

However, there were some minor changes that I hope don't reflect a trend for The Magnolia. The previous two times I have stayed here the complimentary breakfast was perfect; great bagels, fresh fruit, granola. Most recently all of that was gone, replaced with filled pastries, Cheerios and Cinnamon Toast Crunch and bananas.

Thankfully they still have good coffee.

The Magnolia is a great hotel! The rooms are spacious and decorated beautifully. The bed is very soft and roomy. We had a great nights sleep. The fitness area has everything you need to get a great workout. They had free weights and several cardio equipment choices. The pool is small and only 3 feet deep, but that did not bother us. The hot tub is nice and warm. They gave great service and were very accommodating -they even brought us toothpaste when we realized we forgot ours. I think the greatest part of our stay was the Jazz at night and the delicious milk and cookies! It really made our stay extra special. The only thing I would say that we did not like was that they add on $25 per night for parking. They did not tell us that when checking in, but on the day we checked out we got a statement and saw the charges. We understand vallet is not free, however, $25 seemed excessive and we would have appreciated them letting us know when we checked in. Overall we had a great trip and will definetly be back to The Magnolia.

My company booked a room for me when I travelled to Houston from Chicago on business. Upon arrival, the staff would not check me in because I do not have a credit card, even though my company had already paid in full for two nights stay. The manager was totally unsympathetic and would not accept any alternative, like accepting my company's countless offers to use their credit card in case of incidental charges, my offers to pay in cash for any incidentals, etc.. I was not allowed to check into my room which was paid for and put out at night without anywhere to stay. I am disgusted with service I received when dealing with the staff at this hotel. They were unbelievably rude. I have never had such a terrible customer service nightmare as I did at the Magnolia Hotel. I booked my room on Expedia, where there is no mention that this hotel does not accept third party credit cards. Business travellers be warned!
