We booked the regular room and were astonished at the postage stamp box we walked into. We went into the bathroom and tried to close the blinds, the blunds wouldn't close, but the top part did fall down and hit my husband in the head and cut his hand, We tried to call the front desk, but the phone did not work. I grabbed the inroom directory to get the front deak number and tried to turn on the chairside lamp so I could see better, but it also did not work. We called down to the front desk and they upgraded us to a suite which was about the size of a normal room anywhere else. In this room the heavy glass shower door almost fell off it's hinges... and the dust... oh the dust. Oh yeah, and the free entertainment down on the street, MIDNIGHT BUM FIGHTS! DO NOT let the wonderful website pictures fool you. This place is NOT as nice as it would lead you to believe, also it is not a very big place... you hear all the street noise even from the 8th floor. However, they DO have awesome staff members.

We stayed at the Alden Hotel in Feb. for our 5th. year anniversary and our stay was wonderful. The rooms were very clean, the service was wonderful and very helpful when you needed assistance. They made our dinner reservations and there courtisy vihicle took us and picked us up when we were ready. I would recommend anyone of our friends to stay there.

We stayed two nights in December 2008. Room was clean and comfortable, slightly on the small side. Bathroom really beautiful and spacious. No in room coffee maker. $25 a night valet parking, did not see any other option for our car. Easy walk to downtown area, although north from our hotel were several bail bonds agencies and the kind of people that they attract. Downstairs restaurant looked really nice but we did not eat there. Front desk daytime staff friendly.

We stayed in Houston during the quilt convention (although we were not there for it) so as you could imagine Houston wasn't the happening town we expected.

The hotel itself is great, modern decor, fantastic services and amenities. Our room was quite large and had all the latest comforts. It was quite good value as well.

The downside was the location. There was always undesirables hanging around the hotel.

Big tip - do not rely on cabs to get around. The city is very expansive, has no good public transport and cabs become expensive.

I actually had my wedding here back in October of 2007. They were absolutely FANTASTIC!!! They were having huge turnover at the time with their wedding consultant, but managed to recover in the most wonderful way. The management bent over backwards for me, my family and our guests. We had quite a few out of towners who were staying at the hotel and everyone to this day, still comments on how great that weekend was - and how much they loved the Alden.

The hotel is a wonderful boutique hotel. I currently live in NYC, but am from Houston so when I found this hotel, I just KNEW it was the one. It is definitely something I would find in NYC, with a little TX flair. The decor, music, modern furniture is great.

My husband and I recently returned again (in August of 2008), while he was on a business trip to Houston. We decided to stay at the Alden and their service has not been compromised. We have eaten at *17 numerous times and we absolutely love the food there. If it's available, try the Crab/Avocado salad! It's amazing...guests from our wedding are still asking about it!

The rooms are clean and the bathrooms are wonderful!! During our wedding, we were in the suite on the 10th floor, but this past time we were on the 8th floor (not a suite). Both accomodations were great. Room service arrived for breakfast within 15 minutes.

Again, I cannot rave enough about the staff. They are wonderful.

Note that if you choose to leave your car there overnight that it is a little pricey ($20-$25/night) - just something to keep in mind.

  • Liked — the staff, hotel itself, *17 the restaurant,
  • Disliked — overnight parking costly, a few out of place buildings nearby
