“Quiet and clean place to stay in Houston”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014

This hotel is very clean, in a quiet neighborhood, with a nice pool and good breakfast. There are plenty of dining options close to the hotel, and easy access to the freeway system. Overall an excellent place to stay.

If all you care about is a comfortable bed - and NOTHING else (including service and amenities and location) - then the Best Western Fountainview near Houston's Galleria should do fine. But a comfortable bed and a clean hotel is the only positive thing I can say about this hotel. The toilet didn't flush very strong and was already backed up when I arrived (a few flushes eventually fixed it). Then the showerhead was fixed at about 5' - I'm nearly 6' tall so this was rather low. The pressure was okay, but to get any decent pressure at all I had to fiddle with the toggle that changes from tub faucet to showerhead. The in-room-internet seemed like it was at dial-up speed and sometimes I couldn't type anything even though there was a cursor. I would have thought it was my computer but the SAME things were happening on the desktop computer in the business center! The eggs were COLD at breakfast, the food variety was not great (little or no fruit), the butter and jams etc... were all stuffed in the small fridge instead of near the bread and there didn't seem to be the excellent variety that Best Western usually has at their breakfasts. Finally, no one asked me how my stay was on the way out - no smile, no thank you for staying, no acknowledgement that I am a rewards member (I really don't care about this, but by that time, all the negative things were really starting to add up). Also, this is advertised as being near the Galleria. It is...but not anywhere the neighborhood. There are several strip joints nearby. Not what I expected. Overall, the individual problems were not, by themselves, horrible. But it seemed apparent to me - by the end of my 3 days at the hotel - that the ownership simply wants to get by with as little effort as possible. In the hotel industry, just having comfortable beds and a clean hotel doesn't suffice (especially at over $100/night!). I love Best Western hotels. This one does NOT meet their usually high standards.

Excellent, clean, well kept, great service, fine breakfast, close to trendy, upscale Gallery area. The hotel is on Richmond Avenue, known as "restaurant row," and also a couple of blocks from more restaurants and shops on Westheimer. Easy, quick access to downtown area via Richmond or freeway. .

Everything was fine except the computer being used for visitors. It was so slow it was really totally, impossible to use. It really need to be updated. The eggs on the breakfast table were cold for some reason, maybe the Sterno wasn't hot enough or had burned out - don't know for sure. I never did find the Cream Cheese for the Bagels.

My wife and I brought a friend to Houston for surgery. He is a blind refugee who was crippled. He bought a new cell phone and used the computer at the hotel. The desk clerk helped him set up his phone and with the compiter.
