When you first walk into the restaurant you will notice the local artisan pieces incorporated into the decor such as the Tequila bottle tiki torches, the inviting glow of the "worm" bar, the turbulent flow of the dining room ceiling mesh sculpture and the backlit sunset casting a welcoming light on the semi-private dining space.TQLA’s name pays homage to one of the fastest growing spirits in the world. Tequilas and Mezcals can be enjoyed much like any fine wine or single malt Scotch. With complex flavors and undertones present, there is much more than meets the eye. “Tiny, delicious appetizers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

Atmosphere was a little loud, a little crowded, but the food was excellent, if pricey. I could have eaten one of everything on the appetizer menu for dinner, but at least it wasn't mediocre food in huge portions! Not much of a tequila fan, but my friends loved it. Definitely worth another trip to work my way through the menu!

“TQLA is pretty good... but with growing pains”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

Was pleasantly surprised by the tastiness and uniqueness of the Tex/Mex dishes served by TQLA. They have a nice variety of items with some very nice spicy dishes (I recommend the Habanero Chicken), chips and salsas are excellent (always important in a Mexican restaurant) and nothing seems to be a rehash of what every other Tex-Mex restaurant is serving. Seems that TQLA uses Chile de Arbol much more than any other local restaurant, which gives a very unique woody flavor to their foods. Decor is more modern and open that traditional Mexican food places although when we were there, the temperature was kept at about 70F...too cold for my wife and many others I saw huddled up in sweaters inside when it was 100F outside.
The waitstaff still has growing pains. We waited for our server for more than 15 minutes after being seated. Most likely this will improve with time. I saw many of the wait/kitchen staff outside the back door smoking cigarettes, and could smell smoke on our server when she served us... not too appetizing. I'd recommend more discrete smoking areas and washing up after taking a smoke break - especially for servers.

“If you're in the mood for tequila, this is the place for you”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

TQLA is a great upscale bar/restaurant that has a massive selection of tequilas to choose from. They serve traditional southwest/Tex-Mex style food and offer a large array of cocktails as well. My wife and I had returned from a trip to San Antonio and were craving a Prickly Pear margarita. Well after doing some research we found TQLA. And boy did they deliver. If you've never experienced a prickly pear margarita, do yourself a favor and order one. It is the perfect balance of sweetness, enough to bring out the flavor of the tequila, but not be overly sweet to the point of tasting like sugar water. It really is amazing. Oh, and the food is pretty good as well. I really enjoy the brisket tacos and their green salsa is quite tasty. Just make sure you book a table in advance if you come on the weekends. They fill up and you can have quite the wait for a table outside.

“Go for 200 Tequilas, return for the tasty food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

I'm not a big Tequilla drinker, but hubby likes a good Reposada and we were with 3 20-something guys. Over 200 Tequillas available, 8 on tap served at a cold 5 degrees. Tequilla flights, crazy margaritas, blah, blah, blah. They were duly impressed, but on to the important stuff...the food!
We ordered the Tequilla Fried Oysters along side the Crawfish and Pecan Hush Puppies for appetizers. WOW! The oysters were delicious plated on top of a chorizo cream sauce. We all agreed we could eat these all day long! The hush puppies were served with a blackened tomatillo sauce and served with jalapeno jelly...YUM! For dinner I ordered the pulled pork carnitas and they were dynamite. Super smoky, deliciously moist. Hubby had the pulled pork sliders topped with a spicy serrano slaw, he nearly inhaled them, though he thought the fries on the plate were a miss and seemed out of character with the plate. Other dishes on the table were all equally enjoyed- fajitas, fish tacos, chicken tacos.
We will return for lunch some time, but definitely not for dinner. It was so loud and "clubby" inside, that none of could hear each other. We actually asked to be moved to an outside table (and it was 96 degrees out!) just so we could enjoy the company. Service was slow. Really slow. Incredibly slow. Falling asleep at the table slow.
We'd recommend you give this place a try at lunch, if you want some good food, interesting drinks and you have plenty of time to spare.

“Moth to a flame”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

We were attracted by the flames at the entrance to this Tequila (TQLA) haven, but so were lots of other flying creatures - gnats, flies, mosquitoes, a june bug (I hate June bugs) and we were inside. We stated off with nice drinks - my husband had a house margarita, I had the Hibiscus Mint cocktail - both were very tasty. We shied away from the tequila flights, but in hindsight, we should have gone for it. They had at least 200 tequilas on their extensive menu, some served on "tap" at 5 degrees! That's impressive. Out of all of those, the one tequila my husband wanted to try was not on their list. We had the mushroom tamale for an appetizer. I was aromatic and sittingon top of the husk in a fabulous sauce, which i almost missed because it was sitting on the husk. I would have preferred if the tamale had been directly in the sauce. The beef and chicken fajitas were mediocre and the amount was misleading as the meat was sittingon a much too large pile of onions and peppers. the small dollops of sour cream, guacamole and cheese were enough for the first fajita...we didn't have dessert, but we did see someone from the staff licking her fingers after trying a couple of slices with her daughter, just before she started wrapping up silverware in napkins.
