Description: TQLA celebrates the heritage and flavors of Southwestern and Coastal Mexican cooking by combining the freshest ingredients with a fun and energetic atmosphere. When you first walk into the restaurant you will notice the local artisan pieces incorporated into the decor such as the Tequila bottle tiki torches, the inviting glow of the "worm" bar, the turbulent flow of the dining room ceiling mesh sculpture and the backlit sunset casting a welcoming light on the semi-private dining space.TQLA’s name pays homage to one of the fastest growing spirits in the world. Tequilas and Mezcals can be enjoyed much like any fine wine or single malt Scotch. With complex flavors and undertones present, there is much more than meets the eye. Our master mixologists use their knowledge of our vast selections to make some of the finest infusions, cocktails and martinis in Houston.

“Moth to a flame”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

We were attracted by the flames at the entrance to this Tequila (TQLA) haven, but so were lots of other flying creatures - gnats, flies, mosquitoes, a june bug (I hate June bugs) and we were inside. We stated off with nice drinks - my husband had a house margarita, I had the Hibiscus Mint cocktail - both were very tasty. We shied away from the tequila flights, but in hindsight, we should have gone for it. They had at least 200 tequilas on their extensive menu, some served on "tap" at 5 degrees! That's impressive. Out of all of those, the one tequila my husband wanted to try was not on their list. We had the mushroom tamale for an appetizer. I was aromatic and sittingon top of the husk in a fabulous sauce, which i almost missed because it was sitting on the husk. I would have preferred if the tamale had been directly in the sauce. The beef and chicken fajitas were mediocre and the amount was misleading as the meat was sittingon a much too large pile of onions and peppers. the small dollops of sour cream, guacamole and cheese were enough for the first fajita...we didn't have dessert, but we did see someone from the staff licking her fingers after trying a couple of slices with her daughter, just before she started wrapping up silverware in napkins.

“Original Concept”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012 via mobile

TQLA is very original. Like an upscale craft beer joint (think Hay Merchant) but for tequila. I suggest the Smoky Margarita! The food is delicious with well balanced spice and smokiness. The green salsa is amazing! The only thing that I didn't love was that the portion sizes are a little too large for the entrees. Hard to leave room for dessert and you definitely want to do that... Quattro Leches is yummo!! Our server was great... Great personality and very helpful with the tequila menu, but I wish he would have been better about cleaning off the small table after each course. Overall, I can commit to saying that I will return to TQLA!

“Excellent place !!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 29, 2012

This place has a huge selection of Tequilas, chilled shots, great margaritas and wonderful food.
I had the flight of tequila shots and they were all from the chilled selections and very good.
My server Stephanie suggested tequilas and food. Everything was excellent.
The happy hour food selections are very reasonable - cheap - and very, very good.
Excellent margarita with great taste to the mix which is where so many margaritas fail.
This wasn't too sweet, not too tart.. all just right.
The queso is spicy and outstanding.
I had the spinach and crawfish enchilada and it was wonderful.
A great place for fun, food and drinks...

“More to it than just tequila”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2012

Yes---------there is a lot of differnt types of tequila and tequila inspired drinks to chose from-
but you can go for the iced tea, food and ambience --it's all great! the regular salsa is great but the habanero salsa is KILLER! The fish is fresh and the salads are awesome!

“Great atmosphere and wonderful food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2011

It was our first time there and we were a party of six celebrating Christmas a couple of days early with our kids and their spouses. Our table was ready when we arrived and we were seated near the door to the outside dining area in front. Probably if I had realized it early on, we might have asked to be towards the back of the restaurant rather than towards the front. There was only one party that came in after we were seated that wanted to be outdoors as it was pretty chilly and damp that evening and everytime the waitstaff went outside to check on that party, we felt the cold air blow in from outside.
We thought the food was really wonderful - shrimp tacos, calamari, crawfish fritters, enchiladas. Very different menu, great waitstaff and we will go back! Thank you for making our first and not our last trip to TQLA Housotn fabulous!
