Just stayed here the weekend of March 19, 2005. Had a room on the 9th floor overlooking the Galleria shopping center district. You would never know you're right by one of the busiest 24/7 highways in Houston- the 610 Loop at Westheimer- if you expect noise, dont. Because there isn't any. Oh, except for the crying baby across the hallway from my room. Thank goodness that didn't last. I have a two year old- so I know how it can be.
Anyway the hotel is 1st class all the way and I was very comfortable, slept like a rock. When I checked in I had forgotten my razor and the front desk gave me a disposable. A little rough- but it got the job done in time for the event I had to attend within the hour. The shower curtain was on a rod that was oval. I really liked this extra elbow room. Nice soap and toiletries. I didn't notice anything broken, dirty or torn, you know... signs of neglect. EVERYTHING looked well cared for- well except the ironing board which had a scar from a lone iron left too long in one place. I did not use any of the hotel's ammenities other than room service which was very quick and professional with unexpected courtesy- meaning nice. A table was brought in for my breakfast- which he unpacked from a heated container box underneath. Tablecloth in place with silverware, rolled into position then he got a chair for me, pulled the TV into viewing position. Gave me a copy of the Sunday newspaper and asked if there was anything else he could do for me. Wow. What service. Now for the reality. You will pay for this kind of service- but I'll say that with some fairness as it was a quality experience. Even though my room rate included breakfast- up to $20.00- I thought GREAT, no problem because the most expensive item on the menu was 16 bucks. But after it arrived I discovered it was 24 dollars after service charge, tax and gratuity were added. Wow. So,... you pay if you get my drift. Oh, and the snack bar in the room was nice, although I'm still not used to paying over 2 dollars for a regular sized Snickers bar. ha ha. I did visit the gift shop briefly on my way out. It was well stocked with the usual Texas touristy stuff.
So in conclusion- it's a very attractive hotel and well worth the value rate I received of 104., but watch the extras- because after taxes (including a sports authority tax) you will quickly see that 104 turn into 138. like I did. You could probably find a cheaper place to stay, but I don't think it would be quite as nice.
