Description: Born out of a shared vision to bring affordable farm-to-table dining to Houston, restaurateur Ray Salti and Executive Chef Soren Pedersen have collaborated to create Sorrel Urban Bistro, a casually elegant, fresh design featuring an ever-changing blackboard menu of organically focused cuisine. Sorrel represents the second culinary collaboration between Salti and Pedersen, who also are partners at Ray’s Grill, a highly-lauded farm-to-table concept in Fulshear, TX, 20 miles West of Houston. In addition to a diverse daily menu selection featuring local organically grown produce and meat, sustainable fish and wild game, Sorrel offers a charcuterie bar with a wide variety of salami, sausages and prosciutto, both imported and housemade, along with artisan Texas cheeses, handcrafted breads and more. Beverage service includes seasonally inspired cocktails, artisanal beers and 200 plus wines (25 percent organic.) At Sorrel, it's about enjoying a culinary experience.

went twice now and had two different experiences. seems like consistency is their main problem. Great good and drinks when they are on though!

“Mostly good, some problems”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

The starters were great - soup and scallops for the table. The shrimp entree came out with heads, shells and tails - they tasted good, but the mess involved in cleaning them seemed out of place at a fairly upscale place. Two of us ordered them, and we had to ask the waitress for a plate to put all the debris - it seems like they might have thought of it on their own because there was a lot of it and the plate was overflowing. Other entrees at the table were either huge (the veal and pork chops) or on the skimpy side (the fish) but all were tasty and well-cooked. The desserts were a disappointment - both the bread pudding and creme brulee tasted of egg more than anything. We love the concept of farm to table, and were really looking forward to our meal. I think they have some adjusting to do.

“Great farm-to-table restaurant - menu changes daily”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Wonderful lunch! Their menu changes daily. The lunch menu (on the weekend)contains both brunch items and lunch items. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the food and had great wine recommendations to go along. All of us had lunch items vs brunch, seared sirloin and chicken - great presentation and delicious. We had a late lunch and an enjoyable afternoon - our waiter was attentive and not intrusive.

“Better than Expected Experience at Sorrel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

The Biscuit Bacon Casserole at Sorrel Urban Bistro is one of the best brunch dishes I've ever had, and one of the most original. Our first time here was so much better than we expected that I'm only disappointed that we'd waited so long to try it. We literally loved the space, the light, even the bathroom tile. We sat there marveling at the exacting attention and care that went into hanging the Christmas ornaments from the ceiling - just so.

Every dish was very good, the drinks were very good, the coffee was very good. Everything was very good - I wish I could write that about more restaurant experiences.

From the warm greeting by the host, to a lively and engaging waitress, add an attentive manager, and servers and bussers all seamlessly supporting one another, and you get an all to rare excellent restaurant service experience. Everything clicked, and the one very minor misstep was literally overcorrected in order ensure our very good time at Sorrel.

Great service, great food, and far less expensive than expected; actually not pricey at all. Added to our new favorites.

“Vegetarian desert”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

First night of a two week road trip, so hoping for a good start.

Whilst the restaurant did not actually set us off on a high, it should have done better.

My wife is a vegetarian, and there was little offered to her. Having to have a side dish of ratatouille as a main course, at a restaurant hoping to impress, just does not do it for a vegetarian.

My scallops and steak were both really tasty, but at the high price should have been.

Service was attentive, and they were responsive to helping me retrieve the credit card that I left there, but they need deliver better value choices overall if they are to achieve solid status.
