My second stay in as many weeks while doing business in Houston.
I loved it! It was the perfect balance of sleek modern feel, with luxury and a touch of Texas. The location is great, across the street from the Galleria, and just minutes from Downtown, Medical Center, etc. Plus for the Galleria the hotel's car will take you over there for free.
Valet is a bit pricey is the only complaint I had.
I loved the lobby, the rooms were great and the bathrooms awesome!
Bistro Moderne was a gem of a restaurant. On the pricey side of things, but its one of the few French (yet very contemporary) restaurants in Houston thats worth going to.
Overall, one of the best stays I've had in a long while.

I stayed in this hotel over the weekend and I have to say the pictures of the rooms are a bit deceiving. The rooms are small, beds are hard and the bed linens are not that good. The sitting area was okay, but the couch needed some cleaning. The bathroom was nice. Our view was of a car garage and another building; crappy view. The bar/lounge in the lobby was not that great. The appetizer I ordered was awful and a bit pricey for the poor quality of food. I've just stayed at much better hotels than this one and I would not stay here again.

The Derek was the hotel chosen for a 2 day convention I attended on my first visit to Texas. A busy schedule left no time for sightseeing so practically my whole impression of Houston was formed by the stay at the hotel. I found all the staff extremely helpful and friendly; the room was spacious and clean; and the public areas pleasant and welcoming.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to visiting Houston again with a little more leisure time.

We stayed at the Hotel Derek on our wedding night before flying to our Honeymoon destination. Everything was great! This area is one of the nicer areas in all of Houston and the Derek has a great hip and contemorary vibe to it. The room was clean and the staff was awesome. We had leftovers from the wedding waiting for us in the limo and the room service staff was more than happy to pick up our doggy bag from the room and heat it up for us! And they did it fast! The bed was comfortable and the view was great! If we ever want a little getaway in Houston, we're definitely staying at the Derek again!
