I stayed at Hotel Derek for one night and booked through Priceline ($60 plus taxes). For that price it was a good stay but I would not be happy if I had paid full price. At first glance, I was impressed with the lobby and my room. However, once I settled in I noticed a few things. My toilet had not been cleaned completely (gross!) and the room had a slight mildewy smell. Also, it irritated me that you MUST valet and pay $18 plus tax each night of your stay b/c there was no place to park. So, be sure to add $20 per night to your stay.
On the bright side, the shower was AWESOME. The food I ordered through room service was excellent, but pricey. I thought the service
here was great. Everyone went out of their way to make me happy. Overall, my stay at Hotel Derek was okay but it would not be my first
choice.

First time staying at Hotel Derek, check in was quick and no complaints with valet service who helped with luggage etc.

The room was nice, clean and had a good shower. We only ate in the bar the first night mainly due to wanting a quick snack as we were jet lagged, and the food and staff were good. We didn't find it noisy but we stayed Thursday & Friday

It was close to the Galleria, in fact we walked there as it didn't seem worth getting the car for such a short journey.

The second night we ate at the Italian restaurant over the road, can't remember the name of it, but had an excellent meal.

Overall though I wouldn't rate the hotel a 4 star but a good 3 star

The photos of a lavish pool and a relaxing vacation lured us; however, at this hotel we found neither. Upon arriving, hoards of bellhops watched us struggle to unload our bags and carry them into the lobby where the front desk attendants also ignored the fact that we might need assistance with our luggage. Yes, it is two blocks from the Galleria, but it’s not like you are going to cross I-45 on foot. The customer service did not improve throughout the stay. The valet parking was so slow, we might as well have parked our own car and walked the mile it must have been.
And the pool….I wouldn’t even call it a pool; I think “chlorinated fountain” is much more appropriate. If you have looked into staying at the Hotel Derek you have probably seen the inviting picture of the lounge chairs beside the pool. Those are the only chairs at the pool, literally. Even if you wanted to stand in the sun, it was not an option, because the pool is located centrally and does not receive the light of day. The hotel is not a dive. It is clean and decorated with contemporary lighting and furniture. Oddly, the fireplace in the lobby has a TV showing the screen saver aquarium in place of fire. I usually discount reviews online, but if you discount this one then you really cannot expect any customer service or a pool.

I have been staying at the Derek for a few years but last weekend was the last time, sad to say. I'm an ex-Houstonian back for a visit (and a little peace...I work hard!!) On the weekends, this hotel is literally overrun now with celebrities and their entourages. If you are lucky enough to be next door to one, prepare to be woken up at 2am, 3am, 4am etc. etc. These people only know how to shout, not talk. They also like to try to open the doors between rooms, as well as knocking to see if I open. I am a woman travelling alone and consider this threatening. Forget calling the front desk. They bow down to these people and will not take care of it, which is the REAL problem.
