I had a wonderful experience staying at the Derek. Service was very friendly and efficient. I have a few special needs that were accomadated without haste. Even though the hotel is of a larger scale the individual attention I received made me feel that I was not just "one of the masses". I also enjoyed that the hotel's location is in walking distance of fabulous shopping. Next time I find myself in Houston I will definatly be staying at the Hotel Derek.

We stay often at the Hotel Derek and hate to leave everytime. The staff is fabulous and accomodating. Tony at the Concierge Desk is our sweetheart, he always goes above and beyond to accomodate us. Asif at the front desk is always so helpful and friendly. We wish we could stay longer each time and look forward to our next visit. We highly recommend the Derek because of their staff and the facilities. They are first rate in our eyes.

I stayed at the Hotel Derek because of the glowing reccomendations on the Trip Advisor web site. I was disappointed by every aspect of this hotel.

The Derek already looks very worn with stains on the hall carpets and a generally unkept look in the lobby. The room was small and our bathtub was dirty but the beds were comfortable with an ample amount of pillows.

The worst aspect of the room was the dogs that barked all night in the room next door. When we mentioned it to the staff the next morning they simply said that they DO allow pets in the room and that there was nothing they could do about it. We suggested that they book their clients with pets on a single floor of the hotel so not to bother the other guests who left their pets at home. They did not appreciate the suggestion. The desk staff were very snippy and seemed irritated every turn.

I would never stay at the Derek again. There are simply too many nice hotels in Houston to put up with the attitude and inconvenience suffered at this hotel.

I am late writing this review...I rely HEAVILY of TripAdvisor when making lodging choices for business and leisure. I travel extensively for business (scuba diving industry) and have endured a steady decline in customer service over the years. My faith has been renewed by the staff at Hotel Derek. From the minute I drove up, my car was surrounded by no less than three gentlemen. My bags were whisked inside the hotel before I could blink. I was addressed as Ma’am the first time, and then exclusively as Ms. Clarkson for the duration of my stay. Front desk staff were extremely professional and warm. Room service; anything I needed was at my door in 5 minutes or less. The room was nice, very clean, great bath! I cannot say enough about the Valet. FAST FAST FAST and great with information about places to eat, things to see and how to get there. Thank you Hotel Derek..your people are worth their weight in Platinum! I will return when in Houston.
