Hotel Derek is a must stay in Houston. My husband and I took the weekend to Houston for shopping at the Galleria which we di about 4 to 5 times a year. This was our first time to stay there and Hotel Derek was in the perfect location! They even provided us roundtrip car service in the town car for free. The rooms are all very modern and you may run into a celebrity in the lobby, we did! Hotel Derek is by far the best hotel in Houston!

I stayed at the Hotel Derek for the weekend. My room was on the 14th floor. It was nicely laid out and had large windows. The hotel only offers valet service. The pool is quite small and it was shaded most of the time. The location of the hotel is off 610, there is a lot of construction in this area. We were by the Galleria Mall, which is fun and huge. It was easier to walk then drive and pay for parking there. I had turn down service each night, which was included. This is a fun hotel for anyone looking to stay somewhere that is not your typical Sheraton. I would stay here again.

After booking the Derek, I read some reviews on this site and was a little anxious about going. However, I found the hotel to be an outstanding value. The Staff, Hotel, Rooms, Bar and Restaurant all met or exceeded my expectations. I consider myself well traveled and have stayed in numerous three, four, and five star hotels. I found the Derek a four star as advertised. I will definitely stay there again.

I booked here on the suggestion of an acquaintance. It's all pretentious image & no substance. Although the desk clerk was helpful enough, the valet was awful. They double-started my car when it was already running - right in front of me. The bellhop forgot which room I was in, after I told him three times, and he took my baggage to the wrong room. The bathtub drained very slow, which is a recurring complaint. The parking & traffic situation is atrocious - if valet is the only option, then the hotel should do its best to ensure that the guests have a positive experience with this.

I would have considered all of this minor if management responded to me in a different way. However, the manager reacted to my valet complaint as if I had no right to complain. The desk clerk indicated that the manager would look into the situation & see what he could do. Upon check out, the manager came out at my request, and he was utterly unresponsive. When I asked him what he did to remedy the situation, he looked at me blankly. He had no concrete solution to the problem, just indicated that he could talk to the valet manager about it.

Perhaps the hotel is having financial problems...that would explain the poor quality of customer service.
