Yes…the walls are paper thin.
Yes… the room I stayed in was not clean. Yes…It was incredibly dusty, and Yes…the bath tub did not drain. Possibly from all the hair that was sitting in my tub, and around the drain.
I informed the front desk of my displeasure with the condition of my room, and they were kind enough to move me to a cleaner room, with equally thin walls and once again a tub that did not drain.
Having never been to Houston, I selected this hotel because it was near my clients, and it was promoted as a "hip hotel" with a nice social scene.
When I arrived I discovered that the main restaurant was closed for renovations, so a makeshift dining room/bar was awkwardly set up in a room that was not conducive to socialization. After a long day of work, I arrived back at the hotel, and promptly ordered a drink at this "bar" station. The atmosphere was less than great so I moved to a sofa in the lobby; one would think in a "hip Hotel" that there would be wait service in the lobby to refresh my drink or to provide a menu. No such luck.
Too bad, because it was the one and only comfy and Hip place to unwind.
Instead, I ordered room service, which was so-so. I would prefer a little less butter in the preparation of my food.
As a business traveler, and luxury vacationer I have stayed in a variety of Hotels, from The Four Seasons to an Ameri-Suites near the local airport. I couldn’t help but think more than once that I might have been better off at perhaps a Marriott Courtyard, which at least offers free internet, and is generally cleaner with plumbing that consistently works.
The saving factor for this hotel, in my book, would have to be the Fitness facilities, which are important to me. (although dusty, and given the shortage of flu vaccines, it would be nice if a disinfecting spray and paper towels were available to wipe off the machines after each use.)
The pool is also charming.
The bell man asked me where I was from, and I replied New York City. He informed me that many guests tell him that Hotel Derek reminds them of a NYC Hotel.
I say looks are Deceiving.
60 Thompson this isn't!
