“Not so sure about this hotel .....??”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

Well located for after-work activity (Galleria Mall within sight of the hotel), lots of all sorts of retail (restaurants, CVS and Walgreens nearby), Freeway access right outside.

You are welcomed by an auto-emit fragrance (non-stop), lobby got all sorts of weird chairs, couches. Bar/restaurant nothing special ... friendly staff.

Check-in was quick ... housekeeping did not get to my room till 2:30pm both saturday and sunday.

The bed mattress is situated in a wood box set-up -- took one inch of skin off my shin ! Dangerous corners on this box thing.

Bathroom -- nothing special.

Hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to any location within a 3-mile radius (which is adequate to get to the Galleria, and a freestanding Starbucks). Driver requests a tip by displaying a $5 bill on the dashboard !! (it is still cheaper than UBER or a taxi).

Free wi-fi too.

So all in all -- it's got all you need for a business trip -- but with all the other branded hotels nearby, somehow I feel not to come back here.

The design was really surprising and agreable from the lobby to the restaurant to the room. We really enjoyed this hotel that has a very unique feel. The restaurant "Revolve" is way above average and we really enjoyed having dinner there. I would gladly return to this hotel on my next visit to Houston.
If you eat at "Revolve" try the pizza with figs and fresh goat cheese. The steaks are superb.

The accommodations here are nice and the location is convenient. However, this hotel does not live up to the "hype" of its website or other reviews I have seen. It is a contemporary boutique hotel that is cheaply decorated and overpowered by popular music noisily played EVERYWHERE over cheap speakers.

The room was comfortable and adequate but nothing special. Overall, it lacked warmth.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor and facing away from the 610 Loop.

Green Features: Nothing exceptional other than typical request to hang towels if you plan to reuse them.

Ouch… We know it’s impossible to please everyone, but that’s what we aim for here at Hotel Derek! The hotel has had the privilege of working with some of the best interior designs in the country; Fick Mars and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams to name a few… I assure you these are not inexpensive designers and their work has won several very special awards for Hotel Derek during 2014 and again this year. If warmth is what you’re after, I recommend you to visit our SPLASH pool in July or August!

Located near Galleria -2nd latgest US Mall- I liked staying here.
Had a double room @ 14th floor during a conference. Friendly staff, good service, all necessary amenities in the room, incl. Starbucks coffee. Concierge and front desk know their jobs well.

Hotel is clean and with a nice stylish design. Breakfast is good and restaurant/bar you intend to stay longer as planned.
I'll come back, thx

Thrilled to hear that you loved being “In the Loop” as much as we do at Hotel Derek! We are extremely lucky to have the best staff in H-Town and we’re so pleased to hear that they were able to assist you during your conference. Next time, plan a leisure visit so you can enjoy more of H-town’s offerings.

Had a great dinner in the hotel restaurant the other night. What a treat to actually have great service and even better food from a hotel restaurant! The service was on point the whole night for a couple rounds of drinks and our meal. The nacho appetizer is a must!

Thank you for the glowing review of our newly launched Revolve Kitchen + Bar – we are thrilled to receive feedback like this so soon after opening and kicking off our new Spring menu. Glad to hear that you enjoyed our famous “Derek Nachos”. Cant wait to have you back – next time try my fav – the Thai Wings or Truffle Mac & Cheese.

My wife and I spent a date night at The Derek. The prices were what is expected in this area but all the "extra" charges put it at the top of the price chain for what you get. First is the self parking pay, $20? Second all the extra tax fee's. (That's the city for you. Sports Venue tax?)

While the atmosphere is young chic the rooms scream out, IKEA! Beds basically on the floor, bathrooms not just small but very small and narrow. Our sink did not drain (which if cleaned properly the staff would have know immediately.) The balcony room I would not recommend due to traffic noise. Maybe the other side would be better.

Over priced snacks and drinks. Room service was quick but again way over priced for what you get. I guess you could say that about ANY room service at ANY hotel. Complimentary Happy Hour was only one hour. Blink and you miss it.

For a last minute evening out, we did OK. Would we stay here again? Doubtful. We will plan a little more ahead or just pay a little more and get more from one of the other area hotels.

Good hotel. The gym is better than basic, but small. Good feel, very safe, highly convenient for business travellers. Great wifi service and meeting space. Good bar food and drink selection.

It's driving distance to the galleria but the traffic is so bad around the hotel, it's almost not worth it to leave. Also, I hated that there were no window shades/curtains to block out the night sky and city lights. I prefer darkness when I sleep, and the see through, lacy-like curtains were highly inconvenient. Also, I thought people in the hallway and in the room next to me were being way too loud, but then I heard my neighbor pee. That's when I realized the walls were incredibly too thin.

We prefer great…and I think we can absolutely deliver this to you on your next visit! First thing, all of our guestrooms and suites have room darkeners, but they are operated by a little hand-held device that can sometimes be missed – keep a look out for this on your return, or we can come up and show you exactly how it works. It offers that pitch dark, beauty sleep you’re looking for! With regards to the location, it can be a blessing or a curse – you’re in the middle of all the fabulous things that attract some many to Houston, which can sometimes cause a little traffic. However, if you’d rather skip the stress of it, just call down to the concierges and we’ll arrange complimentary chauffeured car services or bring some comfy shoes and take a stroll. Look forward to welcoming you back soon.
