Description: A restaurant concept that's a first-of-its-kind for the nation's fourth largest city; the "green building" design, created by Collaborative Projects, paired with Chef Randy Evans' regional Texas cuisine. Evans delights diners with a farm-to-table menu of seasonal produce, artisan cheeses and meats sourced from Texas farmers. Gulf shrimp corn dogs, homegrown heirloom tomatoes, deviled farm eggs, Texan wild boar chili, bacon spaetzle, free range chicken, all star on a seasonal, ever-changing menu that also pays homage to Lone Star favorites such as Akaushi steaks and Junior League-style desserts. For wine, the Haven team is focusing on boutique, hard-to-find bottles from around the globe at below market prices.

“Expectations were too high”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

So we waited 3 years with mixed reviews to eat at Haven. Based on the reviews from others, our expectations were set quite high, however the reality did not meet expectations.

Positives:
1) Staff was super friendly
2) Food presentation was nice
3) Farm fresh items tasted good, you could definitely tell they were from the farm
4) Nice atmosphere for business lunch

Improvement Areas:
1) Food for the $$, the value was just not there, you can get much better food for the value in Houston
2) The menu has many types of foods indicative to Louisiana, this restaurant is in Texas, taylor the menu based on Texas food highlights and cultures that live in Houston.
3) Dressings on salads did not taste homemade; as well, the salads were dripping with dressing, in fact, I couldn't find the lettuce
4) I had an allergy to one of the foods in the dish, and instead of gratis accommodating the food change, they charged me, that is NOT good customer service.
5) Glass windows in the bar looked like they had not been cleaned in 3 years, they had a filmy haze on them, not good for cleanliness.

Bottom line, would we go back, not for a long long time, it was simply not worth it.

“New Year's Eve enjoyables!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Made a reservation early, not sure where we'd be for NYE. So glad we chose Haven! We've eaten here 2 or 3 times in the past year, and were glad to see they've changed the bar; enclosing it, and adding a small kitchen. We sat in the bar to wait for our table (have an "Airmail", their signature drink, or Any martini. all great!).
The staff here really makes the dining experience; taking it up a notch, by being engaging, helpful and attentive, without being obtrusive. We chose a crab cake entree, and a salad, as part of the pre-fixe menu; both were very good. Next,we chose the fish and the lamb entrees; both were very good and freshly prepared. The lamb dish was very good, but we found the sauce, and it's smoke flavoring, a bit overpowering. Bread that's served with the meal and appetizers is really good; with a touch of sea salt on top.
As always, the food is inspired without being too "far fetched",so that diners can enjoy the mix of flavors. Dessert is never to be missed at Haven. We chose the coconut bread pudding for dessert, and loved every bite!
Haven is a wonderful spot for a special occasion, date night, sitting out on the patio when the weather is good, or an appetizer and a drink in bar, and we look forward to our next visit to Haven, soon.

“Interesting Menu”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

1 Negative, I hate compulsory valet parking, I can walk from the back of the parking lot to the restaurant, I don't need to pay someone to park my car. Anyway, inside the restaurant, great cocktails, varied and interesting menu. I had the wild boar chili, very tasty, then I had the Winter greens which is fried tofu and vegetable peanut curry and for dessert I had the tres leches bread pudding. Food was well presented, well prepared and tasted great, portions were on the small size I could have gone for a burger after.
