My husband and I along with our two children missed our connecting flight in Houston due to mechanical troubles with the de-icing machine in Detroit on 2/8/13. I was not a happy camper when United Airlines told us that there were no other flights to Cabo on 2/8 from Houston. None of the other airlines flying to Cabo on 2/8 had enough seats for the four of us. Our options were to fly to Dallas or Phoenix to be put on a stand by flight on 2/9, fly back to Detroit and repeat this on 2/9, or stay the night in Houston and get a guaranteed flight on 2/9 to Cabo. We chose to stay in Houston. The airline offered us no help other then handing us a blue piece of paper with a 1800 number to call for a discounted hotel. None of the hotels listed met my standards. I did a Google search of hotels in the area and found that Spring Hill Suites was in the area. I made my reservation right online while sitting at the airport and called for the shuttle to come pick us up. After six long hours of sitting in that airport we were cranky, tired and hungry. I just wanted to get to the hotel to finally relax. The shuttle picked us up within 10 minutes of our call to them. We were greeted by two friendly ladies working the front desk. Lobby was nicely appointed with an internet area, a snack convenience center (charge), and a restaurant/bar area. Thank goodness there was someplace to eat being that we didn't have a car. Check in was a breeze and we were off to our room #403. Our room was VERY spacious and VERY clean and had a modern/retro feel to it. Sitting area had a comfortable couch, bar area with microwave and mini fridge, and a large LCD television that was viewable from both the sitting area and bed. There was also a very large walk in closet. I swear a woman must of designed these rooms. LOVED how the toilet/sink/mirror were separate from the shower and vanity area. Made getting ready in the morning super easy. Shower was huge and bonus being it was a spa shower with the water jets on the wall. Restaurant downstairs was decent and provide a good meal and cold beverage to help take away the stress from the day. Got a wonderful nights rest too as the beds were so comfortable. Noise from planes was not an issue at all. In the morning the hotel provided a complimentary breakfast too. Many items to choose from such as made fresh waffles, eggs, cereal, bagels, various pastries and juices/milk/coffee. Mr. Rosa was such a wonderful man and helped my children in getting their food and drinks. Enjoyed talking with him during breakfast about our travel plans etc. We checked out with Anne at the front desk and she provided me with an extra copy of my receipt being we had trip insurance and would be reimbursed for our trip delay. Mr. Traylor who is one of the managers provided us with a shuttle ride back to the airport. Enjoyed the short ride talking about family, golf, and his past career driving a tour bus for a band. Such a genuine, friendly sole who showed me how a golf club works just the same as a cane. :) I hope that Devin J Frank, General Manager reads this review and gives his staff an extra pat on the back. If I'm ever in Houston again I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Spring Hill Suites again. I highly recommend this hotel. Thank you for a wonderful stay and a fresh new start to our trip to Cabo!
