“Some nature in the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

I take my dog to Hermann Park a few times each month. He freaking LOVES it and is always so excited to go. It's nice to get outside, although I wouldn't go walk alone as there tend to be packs of homeless people or smoking teenagers in the more concealed parts of the trail.

The Japanese garden is especially nice. It's a great break from the hustle and bustle of Houston. Be warned that parking on a nice weekend day could take you forever. I've looked for a spot for 45 min before.

“Family Fun Galore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

This place is an oasis in the Medical Center/Downtown Houston area. To me this was akin to Central Park in New York, although not at that grand of a scale. I loved every minute of my visit here. We bought some food and came here with family (a two year old in tow) and parked near the main conservancy building. There were swings and a sandbox play area where we parked, so the little one was busy while we ate. We came a little bit later in the evening so it was around 3 pm. I would recommend coming a little early so that you can fully enjoy the place. Afterwards we went to the main building from where you can rent out paddle boats or ride a little train which goes around the grounds. The paddle boat closes at 4 pm so we couldn't ride that, but we chose the train to appease the little one. The train ride was really fun though. It takes you around the park, over a bridge and near the lake shore for a total of 15 minutes; not bad for $3. After the train ride, we enjoyed the sunset over the fountain in the middle of the lake. There is also a cafe in the main building and restroom facilities.
If you have a few hours on your hands and you have a little one that you want to show the outdoors to, this is the perfect place to bring family. Pack your food and have a little picnic style outing here. I loved it and would probably make this a routine from now on.

“Great Place for a Hike!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

I hiked with a group through the park and around the nearby neighborhood, and it was a great day! There are two bald eagles nesting in the park right now, near the golf course. A gem in the heart of Houston!

“Golf course and running park”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

It's an average park within a city. We did manage to golf here. The course is small and dry, but overall in good condition. The park also has a running lane, which was not crowded at all and a great way to get your exercise in.

“Best place to take a walk, people watch or enjoy reading a book”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Kudos to the many volunteers who keep this fabulous park an awesome experience. Can not think of a better way to spend a day or a lunch hour than walking this park. Do not miss the Fabulous Japanese Garden (free but donations welcome.). Take a blanket and lie on the soft grass. Pick your own private spot and read a book or spend quiet time with a friend. Children will love the trails, bridge, koi pond. A special treat when you find the rabbit hiding in the shrubbery. So many beautiful plantings that it takes a day just to see all of this garden. That makes a lot of trips to the park necessary and what could be better than that! Sit and relax under the shady trees and watch the ducks in the reflection pond. You are just a few steps from the train station on the grounds that is a most fun ride. The zoo is also located here. Have a picnic lunch or supper on the weekend and take in the free staging at the Miller Outdoor Theatre. Seating under the pavilion roof or blankets and chairs for the hill. Wonderful way to sit under the twinkling stars and let the kids be urban free!
