“Nice surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

The grounds are well-kept and picturesque.
The guides were courteous and friendly, with the main house preserved as much as it was years ago. Nice conservation of a piece of history right in the middle of a midtown neighborhood.

“Absolutely magnificent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

This home and gardens are not to be missed. The collection of furniture and art is amazing. Ima Hogg was a true philanthropist and patron of the arts. She was hands-on with the transition of her home to a museum which makes it extra special. The gardens were not stunning in August, but I'm sure they are in the spring and early summer. There is a wonderful gift shop with this home/museum, and we bought many beautiful things to remind us of our visit and the wonderful family that was the Hoggs.

“History and Beauty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

We had a great visit to the Collection and Gardens on a hot August day. The house tour was interesting and it was wonderful to see all of the collection of Ima Hogg. The gardens are lovely and even with not too many flowers blooming while we visited it was still a lovely way to spend a morning. Highly recommend going when it is a bit cooler so lingering is a bit more enjoyable.

“Tranquility in the midst of busy Houston”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

This little nature gem is tucked away behind some concrete buildings, which was lucky for me since few people know about it. Even on a Sunday, these beautiful and tranquil grounds do not get very crowded.

The entire property is huge, 14 acres I believe, and has a very well maintained landscape. The tress, flowers, and garden are perfectly laid out to enhance each piece. There are several walking area/trails, and I loved every single one of them. The best word to describe them - peaceful.

A unique fact - this is the only formal garden in Texas that uses organic gardening practices. I am thankful Ms. Hogg (read more about her, she was a cool lady) decided to create this beauty in the middle of a concrete jungle.

You can also visit the Mansion, which is pretty crazy. I didn't intend to visit it, since I mostly wanted to see the gardens. However, somehow I ended up there, and I am glad I did. Just one of the smaller rooms is as big as my entire apartment - kind of sad, but more so funny. The pieces inside are amazing as well.

All in all, this is a great way to spend a leisurely morning or evening. Families and couples will both enjoy this. You won't find anything else like it in Houston.
