Members of my family stayed at Robin's Nest, where my daughter's wedding was held. Looking at the website from New Zealand, we thought we would be in for a real treat. The staff made the marquee look charming for the wedding, and Jessica was very accommodating with allowing members of the bridal party into the kitchen to prepare food.
We were disturbed however at the presence of so many cats on the property, not to mention in the kitchen itself - a mother cat and four kittens no less! Surely this would not meet food regulations, and our breakfast was being prepared from here each day. Also one cat had vomited on the deck where part of the wedding took place, and we ahd to ask for it to be cleaned up. Yuk!
The other big disappointment was that the bride (who is vegan and who had provided recipes and ingredients to kitchen staff), did not get to eat breakfast with the rest of us either of the days we were there as the food for her was not ready at the same time. This was not good enough.
Overall the rooms which looked great on the website did not meet our expectations with some aspects of them being rather tired and shabby.

  • Liked — Verandahs and trees and the street it is on.
  • Disliked — Cats in the kitchen, child of a staff member wandering around.

This was our first stay at a B&B and it will definitely be our last. It was not a positive experience. We arrived in the afternoon and were greeted ... by our keys in an envelope. The anticipated warm hearted Texan treatment and B&B charm were no where to be found. The rooms were nicely decorated and interesting but that was it. The front door was warped and could not be locked, not good. There was no phone so we could not make arragements with out fellow travellers at other locations. We had to call from our friend's B&B to find out the Robin's Nest had no phones. Not sure what we would have done if someone had walked into the unlocked B&B in the middle of the night and we had to phone the cops... oops no phone .. too bad. For the price it was not at all worth it. We stayed only one night and did not see staff at all. Definitely not recommended.

We arrived just before Christmas, and stayed four nights at Robins Nest B&B. The breakfasts served far surpassed anything we were expecting - they were absolutely delicious! The beds were comfortable, and after the first night being a little chilly, we were brought blankets for the second night and all was well after that. This place grows on you day by day. There are a couple of kitties that are in the house by day, one of who is extremely affectionate... but I like cats, so it wasn't a problem. Staff was helpful and gracious. Thank you for a very nice place to stay during our visit to Houston!

This B&B is fine. However the attitude that I experienced was a little bit less that friendly. For example there's a statement in the "rules" that if you leave something behind, you get charged for the staff's time sending it to you. While this is no big deal, its an example of the little reminders and rules that were scattered throughout the place. On the weekend I was there, there were no staff around to answer questions about what might be nearby to do, nor were there any guides to help out. The room was nice, and furnished in typical B&B style, but other than that, there was nothing to distinguish it.

Robin's Nest was recomended to me by a friend and it turned out to be just what I needed. Private entry on my room and High speed internet to boot. The property is located in a quite location just minutes from great restaruants and downtown Houston. The breakfast was excellent!
