“Best for Medical center”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

If you are in need of a hotel in the Houston medical center, this is the one. Extremely friendly staff, very clean. Especially suitable for MD Anderson visitors, you never need to go outside to reach your department, parking is plentiful

The Rotary House, as it is usually referred to, is located across the street from the main building of M.D. Anderson. You can walk across a skybridge to the various buildings. It has a full-service restaurant with some adjacent quick-serve places that cater mostly to medical center employees.

Amenities include indoor pool, good quality fitness center and medical library. Very useful is the free shuttle that goes to Rice Village (restaurants, shopping) and other nearby stores like Target, drug and grocery stores.

If you or your companions have some downtime Hermann Park is a short walk away (walking, running, zoo, golf course, amphitheater, natural history museum with IMAX theater). Also near the park is The Children's Museum of Houston and Rice University campus. Other sites certainly worth a visit include NASA's Johnson Space Center, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The Menil Collection and University of St. Thomas Houston.

Pretty much said it all in the title, but I was impressed with how nice this hotel was. Of course "Rotary House" didn't inspire visions of a five-star resort, so maybe my expectations were low, but for the patient rate you absolutely cannot beat this place. Attached to MD Anderson, Probably 95% patients & family. Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Daily activities since there is a lot of sitting around for many patients.

Had the dinner and breakfast buffet in the restaurant. Food is my only complaint about the place. Would rate it as "pretty terrible." Admittedly ate the buffet only, so maybe ordering off the menu is better, but you could tell that basically everything was frozen. I generally love buffets, but after dinner and breakfast in the restaurant, I thought the main hospital food court sounded better than having another meal there.

Still giving it four stars despite what I thought was pretty awful food, so you can see how highly I thought of everything else.

We (my entire family) traveled to Houston for my mothers surgery at MD Anderson hospital. We were deciding between the Rotary House and other hotels. I am going to make this simple, if you're traveling for medical care this hotel is incredible. Not only is it attached to he hospital, but everyone who is employed is wonderful and caring. In addition, all guests are patient families. I am used to staying at 5 star properties, and these rooms are not as luxurious, but I can assure you they are clean and the beds are wonderful.

In conclusion, if you are traveling to Houston for cancer treatment please take my advice and stay at a hotel that was built and staffed by an incredible group of individuals that will make your stay enjoyable during a trying time in your life. I promise that you will pleased with your decision.

This hotel is to MD Anderson as the Kahler Grand is to Mayo Clinic--right across the street for most appointments. Very handy. One big difference however: Rotary House is far nicer and very accommodating to patients, mainly because Anderson owns it and Marriott manages it. Mayo Clinic should buy the old Kahler and fix it up to the standards of this hotel!

We enjoyed every aspect of our 3-day stay at this hotel. And although we hope the cancer does not return after treatment, we would stay here again if necessary. It's a pleasant respite from all the stresses at appointments across the street. The staff and guests here are inspiring and comforting!

And we took at taxi from Hobby to and from the Rotary House, so avoided all the Houston traffic and car rental and parking expenses. Plenty of services nearby, with free shuttle for a 2-mile radius.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

My parents have been staying here for many years when coming to MD Anderson. I was able to arrange to stay here on a Saturday night recently and now understand why this is the place to stay when visiting MD Anderson. First of all, guests have to be patients or family members. Therefore, all of the staff is kind and helpful. Everything is geared to making the patient comfortable. There is an extensive reading as well as DVD movie library. There is entertainment several nights a week in the lobby. The restaurant is happy to accomodate special dietary needs. The rooms are extremely comfortable and quiet. Many rooms have kitchenettes. Hotel shuttles are available to take guests to area restaurants and stores.

Access to the various clinics and the hosiptal is very easy.

This convent hotel, with walkways to MD Anderson is not only reasonably priced, but also… the staff and services are part of the caring treatment you will experience at MDA. There is a good restaurant as well as other options for food, they are set up to give you what you require for a comfortable and safe stay and the staff is amazing. You can have your blood work done on site and there is a service desk that can answer your questions and provide other services as well. You get a copy of your appointment information and directions at check in.

Room Tip: Book as early as you are able since this fabulous facility fills up quickly.
