Apr 23, 2008 | Trip type: Business, Family

My husband had meetings at this property prior to our trip. They went well, so he felt confident about booking another stay, this time with family in tow. His confidence was justified: this is a very good hotel.

They held our room despite our late arrival (we did call to make sure this would be all right, however.) We saw that a prom was being held in the hotel as we entered and wondered if we were going to get any sleep that night. We were in a suite on the 9th floor and did not hear a thing! The beds are VERY good. We all got a good night's sleep. Nice amenities. Missing our bathrobes in the bathroom, but the whole room was very clean.

One glitch: my husband had booked a special which included champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries, but somehow they were forgotten by the staff. He called, and fifteen minutes later, a room service server came up to tell us they'd be here in about twenty minutes. Ok, not ideal - but here's where Marriott's good customer service saves the stay: when the server returned with the strawberries, he saw our toddler and exclaimed that he didn't realize we had a little one with us and that he would go down immediately and make her some cookies. We told him that wasn't necessary but he insisted, and fifteen minutes later arrived with freshly-baked, hot cookies and an ice-cold glass of milk in a child-friendly cup. My daughter was delighted, and frankly so were we. It's nice when someone goes the extra mile for you. It is sad how infrequently this happens in hotels these days.

The breakfast buffet the next morning was very good. Not extensive, but very well-stocked with a variety of choices, all hot and fresh. The servers were very attentive and friendly.

Nice decor, nothing lavish but a good upscale hotel. Decent indoor pool. Usually hotels say their indoor pools are heated, despite what they actually feel like - the Marriott's pool actually was warm - a nice surprise.

All in all, a very nice stay and we would definitely return.

  • Liked — Great beds and good food
  • Disliked — not having our bathrobes

We spent 3 nights here. We chose it by reputation and location. It's convenient to Hobby Airport, but not in a very aesthetic location. It was surprisingly quiet, considering the location. Front desk personnel was civil but not exactly cordial. I was disappointed that what had been represented as a lounge on their website was only open on weeknights, and our stay was over a weekend. Likewise, food was also available on a very limited basis. No vending machines (contrary to signs posted), but there was a "market" at the front desk that sold a very small selection of food and beverages. They also charged a significant amount for their breakfast buffet, which a number of properties in the area seem to provide gratis. There was an EXIT sign in the first floor hallway that had the cover hanging off when we got there, and was in the same condition two days later. The glasses in the room were clearly not clean (we'd just seen the 60 Minutes report on hotel room glasses -YIKES!) so we purchased cleaner and cleaned them ourselves. The bed, and the room in general, was very comfy - your usual Marriott good quality in the bed and linens. The bathtub faucet tended to drip unless you really torqued it in the OFF position, which was annoying. Maid was very nice. The property in general was clean and well-kept. Nice fireplace for the "lounge" area. All in all, a mostly pleasant stay but I'm not sure I'd go back. I would probably consider spending slightly more and getting a bit more bang for the buck. I guess I expected slightly more from a Marriott property.

  • Liked — The bed.
  • Disliked — Lack of amenties at the property.

My flight got canceled and at the last minute I needed a hotel near Houston's Hobby airport. I found room at the nearby Marriott and called for their shuttle inside the airport. The van quickly arrived and check in was a breeze. I must have gotten the last room because after me the hotel was full. The room was wonderful. I looked out on I-45 and never heard a sound. The beds were very comfortable and lots of pillows. The room had a nice LG flat screen. All the staff in the hotel were very helpful and friendly.

  • Liked — comfortable beds
  • Disliked — can't think of anything

My family and I stayed at the hotel when we arrived back from a cruise out of Galveston to await a flight back home the next day. My kids were able to hang out by the pool and hot tub that is not viewable from exterior of the hotel like most you see. All the staff welcomed us like we had been staying with them for several days. They got involved in conversations with us versus the generic "Good Morning" or Welcome to the Courtyard"

The breakfast was $9.95 for each person, but well worth it. They make eggs any way you want it and have waffles in the shape of Texas. It is a great touch that makes this Courtyard unique.

We are already starting to discuss a family cruise for 2008 and bringing more family members and will definitely stay at the Courtyard.

This hotel is very accessible to Hobby Airport. The staff is very nice. Okay, those are the two compliments. This is the first and only hotel I have ever encountered with a high fence around it and a room key required gate to enter the parking lot. This tipped me off that I was not in a great neighborhood. I was on the first floor and was amazed to find that my room included a motel-style sliding glass door leading to the parking lot! Not something I am used to at a Marriott property. The hotel is acceptably clean, but showing major wear. The lighting was extremely poor in the shower/toilet portion of the bathroom. Oh yeah, and there is a sign in the Lounge/TV/Business Center area that states firearms are not allowed in public areas. Comforting. When returning from dinner a few exits south of the hotel, I had to wind my way thru an unappealing industrial park to get back to the hotel. All in all, it was an uncomfortable stay in a marginal property. When returning to that area I will opt for a little longer drive and stay at the very nice Hampton Inn in Clearlake.

  • Liked — staff and accessibilty to Hobby Airport
  • Disliked — Area around Hotel was questionable
