We stayed at the Houston St. Regis for 3 nights for a wedding. We had 3 rooms (2 regular rooms and 1 St. Regis Suite that connected to one of the regular rooms). The rooms were all very spacious and beautifully appointed. The bathrooms were also nice and large. The bed was extremely comfortable. All of our rooms had beautiful orchids.
The service at the hotel is wonderful. The staff is very polite and helpful. They would give us bottled water when we got into our car during the day, which we really appreciated during the August heat!

There is a new noise ordinance that went into effect during our stay, so they train that passes near the hotel has to be more quite in the future. I guess this means that the rooms on the train side of the hotel no longer have to worry about the noise.

The pool stayed open all day and night, which was great. We actually used it more at night than during the day.

The only problem we had was that one of our rooms hardly had any hot water in the bathroom sink. The shower was fine, but something was wrong with the sink. We forgot to tell the hotel about it, so it wasn't fixed during our stay.

The Remington Bar in the hotel was very nice. They had live music on Saturday night and we all went there after the wedding. They have a dance floor and also a lot of space for people to sit. The drinks were expensive, but that is to be expected.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the St. Regis and would definitely recommend it.

Stayed here for one night on a good weekend rate which included breakfast $215). Hotel service was good, including room service, which was prompt. Pleasant pool area,gym/spa nice spacious room in a traditional style. Ita a formal Ritz Carlton and still looks like one.
The problem is there is nothing really around the hotel and it backs up on self storage facilities and freight train tracks--so you do hear the train whistles in the back "city view" rooms (and the city is in the distance so there is not much to see). DO have to say though that the train was not loud enough to really bother me.

So I enjoyed my stay there to kick off a hectic business trip--and would have no hesitation in staying there again-- provided a got a reasonable rate--didn't seem worth an arm and a leg.

The room was quite large, however, very old-fashioned and quite worn out. The carpet in my room had large dirty marks on it, which was quite gross. Ditto the sofa. I was surprised that a hotel bearing the St Regis name didn't have a separate shower in the bathroom, but rather a bath/shower combo with a shower curtain. In Australia (where I live) only the most downmarket hotels have shower curtains, rather than a proper shower screen.

I was unfortunately given a room directly across the corridor from a service door, and was woken around 4am by the housekeeping staff preparing for their day. Not a good experience.

If it were not for the nice people, the whole stay would have been a disaster. The worst part I would have to say was Room Service. The menu was a little pricey but not bad considering where we were at. What really upset us was on top of a hefty delivery change was a 21% Gratuity charge. The service was ok, very good even, but 21%??? I don't think so. Then I went looking for the Ice Machine and never did find one so I called the Front Desk and was told to have RS deliver it. With a Delivery Charge plus 21% Gratuity added, we just drank our water cool from the tap. We canceled our planned 2nd night and went back home.

I could go on with other items as well ($25 Valet Fee???) but will just say the next time we want to spend the weekend at a 5-star hotel, we are going back to the Houstonian.

A Room Next to Railroad Tracks is Not Worth This Price!

Although the hotel itself is quite lavish, the staff fail to tell you that the entire slot rooms on the back side of the hotel lie just beside a railroad track on which trains travel several times during the night and early morning. I was awakened three times during my night's stay as a result of the extremely loud trains passing just outside my hotel room. When I complained the next morning to the front desk, the staff person only suggested that during my next stay there, I should inquire about reserving a room on the opposite side of the hotel from the train tracks if I am bothered by the noise.
