If it were not for the nice people, the whole stay would have been a disaster. The worst part I would have to say was Room Service. The menu was a little pricey but not bad considering where we were at. What really upset us was on top of a hefty delivery change was a 21% Gratuity charge. The service was ok, very good even, but 21%??? I don't think so. Then I went looking for the Ice Machine and never did find one so I called the Front Desk and was told to have RS deliver it. With a Delivery Charge plus 21% Gratuity added, we just drank our water cool from the tap. We canceled our planned 2nd night and went back home.

I could go on with other items as well ($25 Valet Fee???) but will just say the next time we want to spend the weekend at a 5-star hotel, we are going back to the Houstonian.

A Room Next to Railroad Tracks is Not Worth This Price!

Although the hotel itself is quite lavish, the staff fail to tell you that the entire slot rooms on the back side of the hotel lie just beside a railroad track on which trains travel several times during the night and early morning. I was awakened three times during my night's stay as a result of the extremely loud trains passing just outside my hotel room. When I complained the next morning to the front desk, the staff person only suggested that during my next stay there, I should inquire about reserving a room on the opposite side of the hotel from the train tracks if I am bothered by the noise.

I stayed at this St. Regis a couple of weeks ago, and it is an upscale, elegant, and traditional luxury hotel. The staff is responsive, polite, and good about remembering your name and properly greeting you. The rooms are large and tastefully appointed with fine mohagany furniture, lamps, and upholstery. The hotel bar is outstanding, has a fun live band for dancing, and is very crowded on weekend nights with the cigar and martini crowd. Being from Houston, I can tell you that the location of the hotel is smack-dab in the middle of everything -- on one side is the ritzy shopping and neigborhoods of the Galleria area and on the other is the classic River Oaks area. Many excellent restaurants around as well. For a four/five star hotel, the St. Regis is a better choice than the Omni, which isn't far. If you need to be downtown, go with the Lancaster or the Four Seasons for luxury or with the Icon or the Sam Houston for the "cool" factor.

The hotel itself is very nice. Clean, large rooms, excellent service, etc...Location is okay, but not ideal. Not much within convenient walking distance, therefore you're somewhat locked in as far as dining.
Not really any options except very nice, formal Remington Restaurant on premises. Nothing available if you're looking for something quick and/or convenient. Nice pool, decent workout room, but not as much equipment as a health nut/exercise devotee would like. Also, ther's not any attendant (at least not when I was there each morning) at either workout room or pool area. No soda machines or ice machines in the hotel. Must use mini bar or go to restaurant and buy directly from it, or take sevaeral block walk to nearby Target Store. (Intersting to note just how few pedestrians you see in Houston, even in relatively busy areas, even on weekdays during business hours). I suppose these may sound like picky musings of a spoiled guest! Perhaps. Could be that Luxury Collection managment feels its clientele wouldn't be looking to avail itself of those types of services, anyway. All in all, this is an excellent hotel, but it might not be for those who aren't as inclined to want to live the high life every minute and every second of the day - even if they can afford it!

Definitly Four Seasons material. People were pleasant. Suite was comfy and classy, service excellent, high tea was great. Breakfast was good dinner was average. Location quiet..all in all worth the stay!
