This garden is run as a foundation created by one person whose personal vision has shaped an interesting horticultural experience. We went in early spring (March) when no much was blooming. The guided tour pointed out many unusual species that the founder had personally collected on many trips. The property, located in Hempstead, Texas, also includes the founder's home, an art gallery, green houses. This is a volunteer run enterprise with much merit for those interested. For the casual garden goer, this will be a very pleasant walk through an interesting place.
After you've worked up an appetite, there's a Bar & Grill about 5 miles further down FM 359 called "The Thirsty Parrot" which was good for lunch. Both the gardens and the restaurant made the hours drive from Houston worthwhile.
