Description: Three decades and two generations of experience and passion go into every smiling face and mouth-watering bite that make-up El Chaparral. Our family history is etched into everything we do. In 1972, our parents, Charlie and Mary Garcia, followed their dream to a small eatery in Helotes, Texas.

“Not the best out there”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

I have been here twice in June-the first visit I had the chile relleno-average. Had some margarita that had midori in it-kinda gross. Sat outside and the patio was very nice-best part of visit.
The last visit was inside seating, it was very warm in restaurant. I ordered the bacon-wrapped shrimp with jalapeno-it was overcooked and the cilantro rice was undercooked. The only good part of this visit was the fact that I was there with friends.
I don't think I'll be back with so many other choices for Mexican food here in san Antonio.

“Great family friendly Mexican”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013 via mobile

In San Antonio with the family on vacation. Found this place a little ways from Sea World. Very glad we came this way instead of fighting the River Walk tragic for supper. Family of 4 ate for under $50.
Food was good and came quickly. Our server was Gabi and she was very accommodating.
Would definately recommend.

“Long time in area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

This restaurant has been around for some time and was completely remodeled several years back so it is roomy and nicely decorated. It also has an outside garden seating area with playground. It is a big favorite with many of the locals. We had lunch here with a coupon and a bowl of their special barracho beans are complimentary with chips and salsa. The the beans are very good the salsa has a 'bite' to it. These came fast to the table but waited longer than anticipated to get drinks and put order in. Lots of food for lunch plate and average tasting Tex-Mex considering San Antonio has an abundance of Mexican restaurants to choose from. We found the rice to be on the dry side and the refried beans greasy. This is the better Mexican restaurant in this community though. The owners are very friendly and have owned it for years. The restaurant is clean but the ladies restroom needs the ceiling cleaned as it appears people have been watering down tissue and wadding it up and throwing it on the ceiling where it is stuck on. YUCK!

“Meep! Meep!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

This ain't Ft. Stockton and the chapparral here does not refer to the 15 foot statue of Paisano Pete that welcomes you into town. But this chapparral also has it's own reputation which is for good tex-mex that is tall on flavor and fast on service.
Stopped in for a speedy lunch. Puffy tacos - yes they retain a little oil, but that only enhances the flavor of the corn masa. Well seasoned beef (you can also get chicken) is cradled in the ever so lightly, crunchy puff of a taco with white queso and lettuce / tomato sprinkled on top. Since we had also ordered guacamole as an appetizer, guess what crowned the whole thing - made it just that much better! Well stuffed (the tacos, not me though that became a reality as well), two of them made a perfect lunch served with the average rice and refried beans.
I stop by here often since it is in my neighborhood. The reason? This restaurant has a consistently good product served in a comfortable environment and an even better outdoor patio to enjoy a margarita under the shade of the oak and mesquite trees.

“One of our favorite places”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

We have been there numerous times and it is great for couples or for a family - they have an outdoor patio and garden with a large deck and at times live music - also an outdoor playground for kids - the food is AWESOME - try the corn salad -
