After eating at Applebee's dozens of times in the past five years, we have finally given up.
The food is mediocre and the kitchen is VERY slow. The wait staff is friendly, but the high turnover shows. And they cannot compensate for the very slow kitchen. Speaking of turnover, it seems that there is a new manager every few months and they hide in the kitchen rather than walking the floor to check on customer satisfaction. Their attractive lunch menu -- two of three among 1/2 sandwich, soup, and pasta -- gave them a short term advantage until Chili's matched it. Because Chili's is only a few blocks away, we no longer frequent Applebee's. And despite Harlingen's lack of good restaurants other than Mexican food, there are much better options for lunch and dinner. The irony of this Applebee's is that I have tried three or four Applebee's in Pennsylvania and this one isn't in the same league. What a shame that is in a market desperate for good restaurants. Applebee's region management should investigate why its Harlingen store is so poor, and try to hire a good manager.
