“Kids loved it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

I'm from Pittsburgh and have gone to many indoor water park hotels. By far the best is Kalahari in Sandusky, Ohio. However, while the lodging and actual water park at Kalahari are superior to Great Wolf Lodge, the amenities at Great Wolf exceeded. Lots of fun all in one place: from Magiquest (interactive wand game played throughout the hotel) to Scoops (the kids spa), the XD Theater, Laser Frenzy, and the Robot-made Ice Cream. They also enjoyed hours of entertainment at the arcade and did well with earning tickets for prizes. With all that, we barely needed the water park. We travel a lot and my 9 yo daughter said this was one of her favorite trips.

Was crowded on Saturday. Recommend Sunday and weekday.

We have had the pleasure of staying at this hotel twice. For being connected to a water park, it is always extremely clean. My only reason that I didn't give it a 4.5 is because trip advisor doesn't allow 1/2 stars and the rooms at the hotel are so big and tall that they always have a light echo in them. I've never heard other guests through the walls or floors but our kids seem extra loud in these rooms. I've been to several waterparks across the country, including Schlitterbaun, and I would rate Great Wolf well above for cleanliness and even quality of rides as well. We have stayed after our check out and used the guest bathrooms to clean up and they have always been clean as well. Food is a little pricey but it's what you expect for an establishment like this. Lifeguards always seem to be on top of their job at all times.

We stayed at the Great Wolf Lodge for work, which I wouldn't necessarily recommend due to the amount of children running around. However, as an adult, the waterslides were so much fun! The rooms were spacious and nice. I would skip eating at the hotel and go into downtown Grapevine for a meal.

Definitely family friendly... Indoor waterpark, arcade area, paint an ornament or piggy bank, girls spa, magic quest..November wasn't a busy time, so we have the pools to ourselves, it was warm inside the pool area, but you might wanna cover up on your way back to your hotel room (chilly on the way). Lifeguards are everywhere, so we feel safe if the kids wonder around the pools & slides. The arcade was like a casino for the kids, we spent a lot of money in that area, and the magic quest was a little bit pricey too. Just to warn you, if your kids ask you to go with them for the magic quest , be ready to spend 3-4 hrs, climbing up & down the stairs to complete the task. The hotel itself looks well maintained. The rooms could run $400s/night but we got a great deal. 2 night stay is enough here, but across the street is the Gaylord Texan Resort. That Nov, they were featuring Ice sculptures, so you can also enjoy the happenings in the other resort as well while kids are having a blast in this waterpark.

We have been there twice and this place has it all for your family! We have a, 11, 16 and 17 year old and they had a blast, there is something there to do for every age group. The wrist bands really make this place stand out; you have your room key and money on it. I wouldnt recommend eating at any restaurant there if you have more than 2 people, for our family of 5 to eat breakfast was over $80.00. The scoops salon looks really great but I didnt let me daughter do it cause it was $60 for a mani-pedi. This hotel is beautiful and made for kids but a little pricey. (what do you expect its a tourist attraction). :)

Room Tip: The loft room and the kid cabin suites are the best.

Plus side: Great waterpark with many wonderful areas for kids of all ages from babies to college age, safety a real priority with lifeguards everywhere, fun rooms for kids, many fun "extras" for kids, pretty good food at reasonable prices. The resort fully expresses it's mountain lodge theme to the delight of kids of all ages. The arrival sequence and lobby are impressive. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Housekeeping is to be applauded - everything is spotless - and that's with tons of kids everywhere! Fridge and microwave in suite. Very casual, relaxed atmosphere - kids loved roaming the hotel in their pj's as did most other kids in the evening. Magiquest seems a tad pricey, but apparently tons of fun and last a long time. It was quiet in our room, could not hear a thing from adjacent rooms or hallways.

Downside: Not many rooms with king size beds, rooms need more lighting. They could use a few more things to do for the adults and maybe one more thing for kids, like a theater with a stage show or something...not that my grandkids and son had any complaints!

Overall: A really wonderful, financially accessible vacation experience even if you can only afford one or two nights. My college age son and 7 and 11 year old grandsons can't wait to go back and are already working on getting all the cousins there on a trip together.
Keep checking the calendar as pricing at this attraction/hotel varies greatly for the same room.
Do not attempt to stay here if you just need a hotel or have no kids in tow.

Room Tip: They have a wide variety of room types. It helps to study the floor plans on their website to make...

Spent 2 days 1 night on the cheapest family room. Did not get any extras. My worries before the visit was, kids get bored with water park the 2nd day, extra activities like Magi Quest are expensive. Food on site is expensive....etc. I found the room to be very nice. Nothing extra fancy but great for a family of 4 or 6. It has 2 queen bed, micowave, fridge, coffee and coffee maker. We worried about the food so brought about a week's worth of snacks. They did not check at all and I brought the snacks and drinks into the park in a insulated bag. We actually ate all the snacks and drinks in 2 days. Running up and down slides burns a lot of energy. The food wasn't too expensive at all. You can get pizza with fry, burger, salad...etc for $7-$10 in the park and about the same in the food court. But if we didn't bring food and had to buy food and drinks all day for 4 people I can see spending $50-$100 just inside the park. In the hotel you can get buffet for $15 (kid) for kids and $20 adults. That's par for most hotels and way less then the $100 for breakfast that I heard prior to the visit. The kids actually spent 2 full days in the water and had a great time. I can see if we go again they might get bored and do other stuff but for the 1st visit it was great. The facility looks very well kept. Being in January we worried about how to dress or whether we need to bring towels. There are plenty of towels in the park. The water park area is around 85 degrees so swimming trunk is very comfy. Bring shirt if you plan to sit around and eat or it could get chilly while wet. Those little towels can dry you but can't wrap around. Outside the water park in the hotel the temp is probably 70 degree so shorts/jeans, t-shirt, flip-flop is the norm.
