“Overpriced and Fake Discount Rates for Conferences”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2011

We were attending a conference at the Gaylord and we were supposed to get special discounted group rates, but many others in our party went straight to the website and got the same deal or better on their own. We also were not to be charged a daily resort fee - but the hotel would not issue a confirmation with that - and asked us to "keep the faith" that we would not be charged this daily rate when we checked out. Unbelievable! When we called to take these issues with the Group desk, they didn't have an answer for us - and would you believe this - within 30 minutes - ALL the rates at the hotel had been jacked up by over $75 per room! GROUP TRAVEL PLANNERS STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL! Unbelieveable - now that rates are artificially high - some folks think they are getting a good deal. Wait until they get dinged for every call and internet connection - along with being held hostage at overpriced restaurants. Next time - plan your group conference with STARWOOD or HILTON or SHERATON or HYATT or MARRIOTT. They won't jerk you around.

We live about 20 minutes from the Gaylord, but have never visited. We decided to celebrate our 5th year anniversary with a couple nights stay and I must say it was the most relaxing time. From talking with hotel and restaurant staff, it seems like January was a great time to experience the Gaylord. It was virtually empty. Not loud. Not a lot of children (we left our for the weekend with their grandma). First class service everywhere. We had an Atrium King room which was worth the upgrade. Highly recommend for couples. *Especially loved the sushi restaurant, not a great deal of variety, but awesome service and great wine selection, plus the waitress even gave us an incredible dessert on the house.*

The hotel & landscaping were gorgeous, but EVERYTHING there was way overpriced. We travel quite a bit, & always stay in four or five star hotels. This, however, was not as nice as most, but twice as expensive. The staff was extremely courteous & helpful though. I don't think we will be back.

We stayed here last week for a meeting that my husband's company had. The hotel is gigantic with first class everything. They have a huge covered atrium that made you feel like you were outdoors, though it was 30 degrees outside. The restaurant food was delicious and everyone was very friendly. The bed was a little firm, but not uncomfortable. I swam in their heated saltwater indoor pool and it was so wonderful. Would highly recommend.

Kidnapped my spouse for a romantic birthday weekend at the Gaylord. We had a fine time but for the price I expected much more. We had a excultive suite which was clean and nicely decorated but noisy. You could hear everyone walking down the hall. I thought at first maybe they were just talking loudly but as we walked down the hall toward the elevators we heard every conversation going on in the rooms and even the toliet flushing. We had a atrium view room which was a lovely view but even with the doors closed and the curtains drawn you could not get away from the canned music played in the atrium all day long. We ate at Zeppoles and Old Hickory Steak House. The food wasn't horrible but just average and way over-priced as was the wine. The service was barely OK. The only places for breakfast was the Cantina or room service. We opted for the Cantina the first morning. On the weekends they only have a buffet. They did have a omlette station you could stand in line for and a waffle station. The buffet was about what you would get at a Hampton Inn and they charge $20 a person!! The next morning we decided not to chance room service and left the hotel for breakfast. I was surprized at the lack of places for music and quiet conversation in the evening. They have a piano player in the lobby bar from 6 ot 9. After that you can go to the Glass Catus but 80's dance music is not our style so we stayed away. As others have mentioned in their reviews you get charged for everytihing. There is a hotel chargeand valet parking is $26 a day. The parking garage is a walk from the hotel lobby if you self park and I'm sure they charge for that as well. We didn enjoy a massage which was very good but again we felt it was overpriced in comparison to other massages we have had. The Gaylord is primarily a convention hotel so I guess they can get away with overcharging and average food but I won't be back.

The Gaylord is immense...which is an understatement. Beautiful, fun with extremely helpful staff. It was the best food I have ever been served at a business function with over 1,000 people. I have been to a lot of similar events in my business life. I thought the food was even better for a business function than a five star hotel I stayed at in Hawaii. The bed was so comfortable, and the room so quiet, I slept better at the Gaylord than I did at home in my own sleep number bed. My only regret was not having a pair of walking shoes with me. There is a lot of walking to be done between the hotel & convention center. With heels, my dogs were barking loudly by the end of the day. Great stay. Wish it could have been longer. Next time I'm bringing walking shoes.

The hotel was decorated beautifully for Christmas and was really worth seeing, however the room was just OK and the bed not that comfortable. I had found a promo code online and was really excited at how reasonable the rate would be, however, there was a $15 fee added for use of the pool and fitness room, (which we did not use) and parking was $16 per night. It ended up not being as cheap a rate as I had expected.
