“Things that make you say "Ack!" and "Awe!"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2010

This was a mother and daughter trip just for fun. We went to see "Ice" and stay one night at the Gaylord.
When we arrived we noticed a giant print of someone's bee-hind on the toilet seat. "Ack!" We quickly used up all the hand sanitizer and room shampoo scrubbing it down to a favorable gleam.
You might think this was enough to send us packing. Well, the rest of the room seemed very clean, and pretty, so we decided to stay.
The hotel was an absolute winter wonderland. The trains and trestles, decorations, lights and cute costumed personnel were just delightful. "Ice", a show of ice carvings, more than met our expectations. Take hat and gloves. Even with the parka they loan you it is freezing, and I mean FAREEEEZING cold. My camera froze up. My fingers never did thaw out.
We felt it was totally worth it to get a room facing the atrium. Sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine and ancho-chile cheesecake from the Mexican restaurant, while enjoying the sights below was just delightful.
Lunch at the Mexican Restaurant was a bit too spicy and we wondered how in the world children ever ate there. However, it really was good as long as you had a cold drink nearby. The afore mentioned cheesecake was not spicy however. We noticed that evening there was a very long wait. We were glad we had eaten during the slow time.
They have an indoor swimming pool. This is a must for my old achy back, but brrrrr was it cold!
A visit to the Grapevine Mills Mall made the whole trip one to remember. There are some cute shops in the Gaylord. Put it all together and it is a shopper's paradise.
All in all the service at Gaylord Texan was impeccable. Our only complaint was getting into the hotel and getting parked. We decided the next time we came we would squeeze everything into one suitcase. We had to hoof it quite a ways from where our car was parked. Hmmm....come to think of it, maybe I should not be such a cheapskate and just use the valet service.
Even with these complaints there were plenty enough good things to make us go again, and again, and again.

We (spouse and 2 children) stayed at the Gaylord Texan Thanksgiving night. It is a lovely hotel with an impressive lobby, but to say the service was bad is an understatement. One would think that a hotel of that size would have the ammenities to accomodate its guests. One would be wrong. Food service was basically unavailable, even as late as 10 p.m. Room service stopped answering the phone. Same scene in the morning. Furthermore, the hotel staff seemed utterly clueless about its featured - and heavily marketed - attraction, Ice! No one even knew the tickets were for specific times until we were finally directed to a self-serve kiosk, only to find that the attraction was sold out for the next several hours. Had we been told tickets were timed when we asked about it at check-in, we would have bought them then! In short, everyting was a hassle. Disappointing from a hotel that bills itself as the home of "no problems," especially at that price point.

Thank you for sharing your experiences during your visit to the Gaylord Texan during Thanksgiving. We pride ourselves on providing the highest level of customer service for our guests, and this not the type of experience that our guests have come to expect at the Gaylord Texan. This does not appear to be the case with some of the information that you received regarding ICE!, as well the availability of dining options for Thanksgiving. Please feel free to contact our hotel directly at VoiceOfTheCustomer@GaylordHotels.com, and we will be happy to address your individual issues with you directly.

Thank you.

The Gaylord has a beautiful Christmas display. It is a very clean hotel. There a lots of people here (both guests and people to see the ICE and Christmas displays) and the hotel was kept extremely neat. I swam in the indoor pool and it is very nice. A great temperature and extremely clean. Easily the nicest hotel pool I've used. The only downside were the restaurants - they weren't the same quality as the hotel.

As I said above - nice to look at but don't stay here or eat here. Food and service here are terrible.

I came to this hotel yesterday hoping for better service than I had received during my prior stay back in June 2006 and man wasn't I disappointed! The last time my husband and I were here, we had to switch rooms due to mold. We also had really bad experience at the Texas station restaurant because we were practically ignored by the server for over 30 minutes. We decided to go to dinner at an alternate location as we don't believe in shoving our hard earned money down people's throats. So I went back there with my sister and son yesterday hoping that our first experience was just an isolated incident. Oh how wrong I was. We were in Zeppoles restaurant from 745p to 9 pm during which time we only got our drinks and a pizza for my 3 year old. Nobody came to take our order and after which we decided to leave and grab dinner outside the hotel. My conclusion, horrible service for such an exorbitant place. And again I did not feel the desire to force folks to take my money. What a shame!

There is alot of flash and gitz to this hotel. I attended a conference there. The Alamo, River walk etc are nice for a day, then they become a pain as they always seem to take you out of your way to get where you are going. Ate at a couple of on site restaurants which were both quite good and the sports bar with its huge TV was fun. The courtyard area was quite noisy at night, so if you like your peace and quiet, get a room that dooes not overlook the courtyard. The staff was polite and the room was clean. I would give this a 3.5 star if I could. This place has potential to be a really good hotel, but its not there yet.

My family spent a long weekend at the Gaylord Texan this summer and had a great time. They had an Alice in Wonderland theme for their summer celebration which was outstanding! The kids had a great time exploring all the amazing activities available. The hotel is so large and well suited. It's city in itself. Our only complaint is the poor sleeping quality. The rooms were clean and beds big, but very uncomfortable - hard as a rock. The activities and city like environment made up for any back aches. We had a wonderful time and would definitely return.
