“Great hotel, great location, great amenities, great cost.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2010

My wife and I recently attended a marriage conference at the Gaylor for two nights. The hotel is breathtakingly beautiful. The staff was always courteous and helpful, almost everything in the hotel is top notch. However none of this comes cheap. Our two day total, hotel, taxes, parking, and resort fees were just over $400. And we received a significant discount because of the conference. This is an upscale conference hotel. Our group was 2,500 people and we were not the only group. There are tons of people and tons of kids everywhere. Anything you buy there is going to be expensive. But the quality of everything was exceptional. Breakfast for two at the Riverwalk Cafe was $40, but the buffet was fabulous. Several other conference attendees remarked at the costs of their meals but all spoke well of the food. You also do a lot of walking to get anywhere.

The Gaylord is also not a quiet hotel. Its large open spaces and open restaurants make it quit noisy. Add a few thousand people passing through plus the fact that it is in the flight path of DFW airport make this place loud.

The Gaylord is a step up from a traditional Vegas themed mega-hotel, but a step down from say a Disney World Resort.

If you want to experience a great hotel and resort and are prepared to pay for it, go. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful weekend get away, don't. (Unless you are going to Family Life's Weekend to Remember marriage conference, then by all means go!)

It was right after thanksgiving when we visited the Gaylor Hotel. It was quite rush but the decoration over there is breath taking and specially their Ice Museum is amazing place to visit. I strongly recommend anyone if they are making a trip to DFW area then this hotel is a mist visit.

A nice, beautiful big hotel, they prepare all the decorations and themes very well based on theme/season. But this hotel offers no services at all. Not so many smiling employees, everything they have inside the hotel (spa, food, etc) are way too overpriced. Located in the middle of nowhere, they're taking advantage, not providing service, to go around the town or mall. Well, I don't think it's a good idea to stay for leisure purpose if you have to pay that much price and cannot go anywhere. It's only a great place for conference and meeting. However, one day trip with family and kids to enjoy their seasonal attraction might be a better option.

We spend a couple of days each December The Gaylor Texan. The beautiful atrium which covers several acres is decorated Texas style for Christmas with Trees, animations, and lots of miniature trains. Mr & Mrs Santa are the real thing! Our room overlooked the Pala Dura Canyon and was high enough for us to enjoy the entire sight. Our room is always spotless, and the staff are extra, extra Texas friendly. There are several restaurants within the hotel. We especially love The Old Hickory. The hotel provides free shuttle service to the small town of Grapevine for boutique shopping, and the giant outlet mall is also nearby. For men there is the Bass Pro Shop just down the road. Also, each winter the hotel has the spectacular Ice Exhibit on premise. The spa is luxurious and relaxing. I highly recommend this as a destination spot for R & R.

This hotel is about 10-15mins from the airport, which means it's not in downtown. It's a "resort and convention" hotel, so throw all your stylish and minimalist expectations away. Checkout was ok, but they apparently won't offer to carry your bags for you. Some rooms are rather far away as it's a huge hotel with 1,500 rooms, so good luck if you're tired and have a lot of luggage. Walking to your room and passing all the massive Alice in Wonderland sets is a little creepy at night. The room was ok, just like it was built in 2004. Boring browns and cathode ray tv were not inspiring. Also, the corridors' air conditioning equals that of a polar bear enclosure. They are trying too hard to combat Dallas' summer heat. I heard they have 2 pools (indoor and outdoor) and a gym, which I didn't have time to try. They have a lot of Alice in Wonderland gift and product shops, all seeking to lure tourists. They have a convenient $10 car service to the Mills Outlet Mall, 10 mins away. Unfortunately, the outlet mall sucks. Bfast was ok in terms of food variety, very american. Service was good, they seemed to have ample staff. They charge you a USD15 charge for internet, newspaper and tell you this upfront.

The convention centre was large and facilities and service were ok.

I attended an International Conference last week. The hotel, staff, rooms and conference facilities were excellent. I ate at the restaurants and spent time in the sports bar and Glass Cactus nightclub. The meals and entertainment were second to none.

The rooms were beautiful and spacious. The bathroom was large and the decor was great.

I would like to go back again with my family, because I am sure they would love to stay at the resort.

Resort is beautiful. Plenty to do while not in conference sessions (indoor / outdoor pools, vinyard, walking / jogging trail, shopping, etc..). Rooms are top notch. Conference facilities are perfect and close to hotel rooms. Plenty of restaurants on site - ranging from sports bars to upscale steakhouse. Seemed to be plenty of night life for the younger conference attendees.

Can't think of a better location for a conference.

I would consider this location for a family vacation if it was a base station for other, off-site activities (six flags, texas motor speedway, etc.). Otherwise, not sure there is enough to do on the "resort" for a 5 or 10 year old. No bikes, golf, shuffleboard, tennis, beach, etc..
