“Pretty hotel but fairly costly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

We enjoyed our visit to the Gaylord Texan and liked the atmosphere. Unfortunately, there is no complimentary breakfast at this hotel and if you want to eat at one of their restaurants, it can be a little pricy. There is no microwave in the room but a small refrigerator was available in the room. The rooms and hotel seemed clean and my daughters liked the pool and water park options. The Friday night fireworks was a fun activity to see from the hotel parking structure too. Enjoyable stay but would be a better visit for us without kids along since this seems to primarily be a convention hotel.

I stayed here for a girls' weekend. This is a huge hotel that does a strong conference business. When you're not paying on your own dime, it might be more enjoyable, but as a leisure traveler I found it unremarkable. The pool adjacent to the hotel was too small given the number of rooms at the hotel, and the landscaping in the pool area was nothing special. Finding beach chairs was a challenge; my friend had to get there before 9 am to get chairs. Moreover, the pool bar was understaffed, so food and drink service was slow. It would have been nice if they had made it an adults-only pool. I am truly perplexed why they did not build a bigger pool given the size of the hotel, and that every guest does not want to make the shuttle trek to the water park. I would strongly recommend that they build a larger, Vegas-style pool--that would kick up the resort a notch. The double queen room was nicely decorated but struck me as small. Staffing: in general it seems like the hotel is trying to save money by not hiring enough staff to deal with the volume of crowds--it took my friend an hour to get a cappuccino due to the long line and only one staff member. A positive note was the steakhouse--the food was excellent. The prices were in line with other high-end steakhouses. The other restaurants are nothing to write home about, and there were long waits to be seated. (Tip: the charming downtown of Grapevine, TX is nearby with lots of restaurant options, including the local favorite, the Main Street Bakery, where I had delicious crepes.) The Iron Cactus nightclub was enjoyable, but not so amazing that I would book the hotel just because it's on the property. The atrium and decorations were typical of a theme park, and once you've seen them, you've seen them. The indoor planting was nice. Parking garage is too far from the hotel, and we arrived in a pouring rainstorm with only a partial covered walkway to the hotel. I find the prices high for the overall average quality of the experience. I think next time for the same price I will stay at the Westin Stonebriar for a more serene resort-quality experience with less crowds. If the Gaylord would upgrade the hotel pool to something Vegas quality, and add more dining options so it isn't a headache to get seated, it might make it worth it to return.

The property is beautiful. The flowers and paths/trails are lovely, although the fountains were shut down during half our trip. The rooms are decorated nicely, but are very small and ceilings very low. Some balconies are so small that you must sit sideways. The water park is off property. The food is mediocre and overpriced. Restaurants are open inconsistently. They have both a resort fee and a parking fee, which combined with taxes add $60+ to the room per night, bringing our room to $300+/night. This is our fourth visit to the Gaylord, and it will probably be our last.

Great hotel with plenty of things to do for the whole family, and the staff was great.

The waterpark was a lot of fun for the kids (and adults). There were many food choices, both on the premises and the surrounding area. On the night of July 4th, they cleared out the top level of the parking garage, so all of the guests could watch the fireworks show on the lake. It was spectacular!!

One negative about this place is the $$$, they get you for everything (don't come here on a budget). With that said, our family will definitely be returning. Great hotel!

The property is beautiful with lovely landscaping. I didn't go to the water park, but it looks like fun for kids. There is a night club on property for the 40-and-over crowd, but it has a nice deck out back overlooking Grapevine Lake. The rooms are gorgeous, and the restaurants are really great (assuming you don't mind hotel pricing). It's also nice to visit during the holidays when they really go all out with decorating.

I stayed here for business, and really enjoyed the experience. Had the best pablano cream soup at one of the sports bar restaurants too. Wonderful rooms. Beautiful, lush atrium. All of the staff made eye contact, smiled and said hello. So unusual these days. They must enjoy their jobs to exhibit thus behavior so consistently. I'll be back.

Room Tip: Stay above the ground floor to avoid some noise.

I say not for young children because there is just nothing to do besides swim. The water park is closed during Winter/Spring months and doesn't reopen until April I believe, so be sure to check that before you plan your trip here. The grounds were beautiful but there is absolutely nothing to entertain kids inside the resort. The restaurants are not kid friendly. We did eat at the Italian restaurant one evening and it was not very good and way over priced. We spent 200$ on a family of four. We don't mind the money if the food is up to par. Our server however, was excellent. They charge you to park and it's a long haul to hotel, which we didn't mind. They also charge a resort fee. The kids were pretty bored and so were we.

Suelena,

Thank you for providing your review about our resort. On behalf of Gaylord Texan, I would like to apologize for not providing you enough information about Paradise Springs. Paradise Springs is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekends. Our hotel also provides activities such as DJ music, games, hair braiding, and airbrush tattoos. We also have strolling entertainment on the weekends in our main atrium. Every Friday during the summer, there are fireworks provided by the city of Grapevine and your family can enjoy them from the top of our resort garage. If you need further assistance or need more information, please email me at tfeedbackmailbox@gaylordhotels.com. Thank you again, and hope you have a great day!
