A truly memorable experience in our lives was a recent visit to Belle Oaks Inn located in Gonzales. TX. We feel so fortunate to have discovered this lovely home during a trip through the area. In need of a night's rest, we made enquiries in a neighboring town and were directed to Gonzales and Belle Oaks. Our night's stay turned into two. What a wonderful, restful time we had.
While visiting with the owners, we learned that the plantation-style mansion was built in 1912 and had recently been restored by them. I would like to compliment them on their gracious hospitality and the exquisite restoration of this wonderful old home. The extensive, beautifully landscaped grounds feature a swimming pool, lovely flower gardens and a reflecting pond all nestled under massive live oak and pecan trees.
We found the guest rooms to have all the amenities such as a tv/vcr and coffee maker, wonderful linens, down comforters and pillows and each has a private bath with luxurious towels and a selection of fine soaps and shampoos. The whole house is decorated with fine antiques and many of the rooms have great old fireplaces.
Much of our time was sitting on one or another of the porches and verandas with a cool drink in our hands. just soaking up the atmosphere. At 4 o'clock in the afternoon we were treated to a concert that came drifting through the trees from the bell tower of the nearby courthouse.
For breakfast we had the specialties of the Inn, Pecan Orange Bread and Southern Brunch Egg Casserole. As if this was not enough, they also had an assortment of fresh fruits and juices, cold or hot cereals and gourmet coffees and teas. Yum!!
We enjoyed poking around in some very nice antique shops in Gonzales and the area features many sites of early Texas historical events.
If you long to be touched with a flavor of the "Old South", its hospitality and restful ambiance, then Belle Oaks Inn will certainly satisfy. We can't wait to go back!!
