“camping under the stars”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

We arrived at Palmetto State Park after dark and luckily found a nice campsite. We put on our headlamps to pitch our tent and then put out our dinner on the concrete picnic table. Later we walked over to the building with sinks and toilets to get ready for bed. Outside we met the very nice and helpful park ranger who said he would check with us in the morning. We were able to see layers of stars from the mesh roof of our tent. In the morning, after paying for our campsite and having a cup of coffee, we took a shower, had breakfast and planned our day. We started off with a walk on trails winding around palm trees and along the water. We could have stayed longer in this lovely park but decided to head off for another adventure.

“Nice Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

It is right off of I-10 between Houston and San Antonio and if you can spare a couple hours to enjoy easy trails, lush landscape and very interesting history. There is also a small lake and you can rent canoes and paddle boats. I wish I would have seen it sooner.

“Beautiful, Peaceful State Park”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Beautiful, shady park with tons to do, Paddle boating was a family favorite, we will come back just for that activity. Front desk staff were very polite, but volunteers watching everyone by boats made my family uncomfortable. A woman volunteer with her daughter parked her golf cart and sat in front of our picnic table while we were trying to BBQ. No alcohol, no issues but she decided to sit and stare, very rude. My family is mixed white/ mexican descent so were not cetain if she had issue. But on good side the park itself is quiet, shady and relaxing.
