This place lived up to its reputation as one of the best in an area known for outstanding BBQ establishments. We arrived about 6:00 on a busy Friday evening but were seated fairly quickly by the waitress who guided us to get our own drinks from the fountain machine. The restaurant is BYOB if you want beer, wine, etc. The menu included the standard BBQ fare including pork ribs, beef brisket (sliced or chopped), ham and regular or spicy "German" sausage. Sides included the usual beans (pinto or barbecue), cole slaw, potato salad (regular and chipotle) and fries. Homemade pies were offered for desert. Our order was taken soon after seating and the food arrived shortly after. We each had combination plates and were able to share ribs, sliced brisket, ham and the spicy sausage. The meats were all first rate with the pecan wood smoked flavor a little less pronounced than that of mesquite, oak or even hickory. The sides were all above average and the chipotle potato salad was superb. We were too full for dessert but the pecan pie at a nearby table looked good and was eaten with gusto. Service was prompt and attentive and prices were reasonable for the quantity and quality offered. If you're ever near Glen Rose at mealtime or even want to make a special trip for some great Texas 'cue, I highly recommend you try The Ranch House.
