This state park is one of the prettiest parts of Texas. The clear Paluxy River is a natural play area that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The dinosaur tracks are real and you really can see them. From the three-toed variety to the large "pad" of the Brontosaurus type dinosaur, you will see tracks from antiquity. But just as awesome is the actual river area beside the tracks. We visited Track Site #2 (the most famous). There are stones cut into the area just above the river that forms almost an amphitheater area in which to sit. This is a fairly large area and gives families a great place to sit and watch the river area. Kids and adults were crossing by walking across the rock "bridge" (large stones that will navigate you across). The river is clear and has a low, non-threatening current. The river isn't deep in this immediate area--perhaps 24" at most.
Take the time to walk down the paths along the river and around the bend. Birds, wildlife, tracks of LIVE animals and all around. In warmer weather it is a great place to swim and play in the river.
My husband thought this would be "dumb" but he loved it and we are already planning a trip back soon. My almost teenage boy was ready to move :-)
Fairly inexpensive. There are campgrounds with electrical and water hook-ups. Shower houses. Open until 10pm in the summer for non-campers. Friendly staff. Almost right in Glen Rose, so not in the "boon docks" at all.
