“Preferred Hotel in Galveston”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2009

This is the the place to stay in Galveston. It is on the water, has a great pool scene and balconies to sit and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sunset. We've tried the other top hotels and always end up back here. Club 10 is the ultimate luxury with upscale rooms. We particularly like The Steakhouse restaurant and rank it with the top steak houses nationwide.

We stayed on Mother's Day weekend for 2 nights. When we arrived we were stunned at the overly crowded pool area. We were looking forward to relaxing in the sun but there was not a lounge chair to be had, Over time we discovered that the hotel allows people from the street to use the pool. The manager actually called it a public pool. At $300 + a night (we stayed on the Club 10 level) we fully expected to have the privilege of using the pool. We finally sat in upright chairs off to the side and watched the police escort underaged drinkers off the premises. It was like spring break gone wild.
The phone in our room did not have batteries; the elevators were not working on Sunday; the maids did not clean our room until 5:00 p.m.; and turn-down service consists of a package of chocolates laid on the bed.
The manager finally gave us a $100.00 discount after we complained that we had spent $700.00 for nothing but disappointment.
We will never go back.

Got a room on the 12th floor with a great view. All rooms have balconies and it was great to sit out there enjoying the view while kids were sleeping in! Hotel is beautiful. The room was very spacious & nice. The pool area was incredible. We could spend all day there. Everything was clean & spotless in the pool area. It was a heated pool so on a cool morning in early April we could still swim. It was very warm! In addition to the pool area, there were 2 hot tubs & a waterslide. The swim up bar was really cool. They had a sign keeping kids from the bar area, so adults could enjoy it without splashing of kids. We were able to let our kids swim and play with other kids that they met there while we hung out in the hot tub or enjoying the bar. Valet parking was only $10 a day. Had to tip whenever getting car, but didn't need it often and they were very efficient with it. Breakfast isn't included & very expensive, so we just walked down to the IHOP each morning which is right next to the hotel and very reasonably priced. The beach is right across the street. There is a light at the corner so you can cross, so that was no problem. The beach looks great. Couldn't tell there had been a hurricane. We drove farther down beach to explore and did see lots of signs of the hurricane but nothing that would interfere with a good time on the beach! Staff was very nice. They even let us check-out an hour later!

The hotel was gorgeous. The experience was Horrid! The hotel security is a joke! The parking lot was Fair game to vandals. BEWARE of THIS PROPERTY!!!!!!!!!!!
Our vehicle was scratched beyond repair. SCRIBBLING SCRATCHES in the paint! There is NO way this was a quick vandal. This job took a while to conduct. WHERE WAS SECURITY between midnight and 6 am???
NO ONE seems to know. We were told that the property would not acknowlege this vandalism. I guess they weren't aware of the laws. Will are looking into getting this settled the hard way since the Hotel was not at all helpful.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF YOUR SAFETY WHEN DECIDING WHERE TO STAY IN GALVESTON. THE SAN LUIS IS NOT THE TOP CHOICE FOR YOUR WELBEING!

We stayed at the San Luis on
April 13, 2009. We had adjoining rooms for extended family, and were on the 14th floor. The rooms were very comfortable and well maintained. The views from the balcony were excellent. The pool area was very nice and was not crowded at the time we were there. I suppose it might be different in high season, but we were very well satisfied. We did not eat at the San Luis as prices seemed on the high side. Many convenient restaurants were within walking distance. The beach was across the street and down some steps at the seawall. It was clean and well maintained.

My husband and I went on a cruise oo Galveston. Being that we are from California we decided to fly in the dayt. We stayed in the Club 10 @ The San Luis. It was a beautiful view from both sides of the building. The room was impressive and very modren although a bit cramped in size. The bathroom was so modren but the sinks weren't very functionable (the water splashed out all over the counters).
The service there was real pleaseant. As a guest in the Club 10, we were taken to the Port of Galveston by a personal driver in a Cadi Escalde, much better then the general shuttle. The diver was very pleasant and gave a lot of historical information about the city.
The pool was nice and very warm, but the music from that area was a bit annoying by 1 AM (it can be heard from your room). But that is to be expected in a resort town. It is comparable (at least the room we stayed in) to The Palms in Las Vegas. Alhtough iI did notice the other floors looked very outdated. I would not recomend this hotel for someone that will be taking a cruise - it is very far from the Port and not much to do in the surrounding area (other then the beach).

It a beautiful place to stay, but for the price I can not see people coming to outside bar and pool from OFF THE STREET. The POOL and Outside bar should be for the people staying at the hotle ONLY. The lanuage from the people, and being to crowded was bad. When you go there to have fun with your Grandkids or kids, you do not want to pay that BIG price to have people from off the street to be there too. You should do something about outsiders coming in. We may this there again if something is done SOON. Would I recommend this HOTEL AGAIN, not if something isn't done about the problem. There are other nice places in Galveston to stay and not so crowded.
